ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential job functions and job responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching day and/or evening HVAC classes.

  • Teaching beginning and intermediate refrigeration and heating classes.

  • Teaching beginning and intermediate classes of electricity connected with HVAC industry.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration classes.

  • Willingness to teach evening classes.

  • Teaching either clock hour (PSAV) vocational classes or credit (PSV) classes.

  • Maintaining competency records of students in classes assigned.

  • Willingness to modify and improve lesson plans of classes assigned.

  • Overseeing internships.

  • Justifying and reporting grades of students in classes assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

The qualifications for this position include:

  • This position requires two (2) years of Residential and or Commercial HVAC experience and universal EPA Section 608 certification.

  • An A.S. or A.A.S. degree from an accredited institution is preferred.

  • Thorough knowledge of the air conditioning and refrigeration systems.

  • Knowledge of heating systems and duct construction.

  • Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams and HVAC building construction plans.

  • Knowledge of heating and cooling load calculations.

  • Some computer skills or willingness to learn.

  • All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical requirements for this position include:

  • Ability to regularly lift and or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to safely lift, hold, and carry up to 50 pounds of supplies and/or equipment needed for student training

  • Manual dexterity and balance required for demonstrating air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and refrigerationapplications

  • Demonstration of appropriate air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and refrigerationskills as required by curriculum and standards

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time, walk, bend, lift, reach with hands and arms, and stoop

  • Ability to maintain and/or troubleshoot all lab equipment in the air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and refrigeration lab

  • Ability to bend down and get on knees while performing different air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and refrigerationtechniques

  • Ability to present verbal lectures/demonstrations

  • Vision abilities sufficient to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

  • Excellent Hand-Eye coordination skills required to demonstrate air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and refrigerationmaintenance and repair techniques

  • Ability to travel to and pick up miscellaneous supplies from local vendors for materials for student training and make good purchasing decisions or substitutions

  • Ability to physically demonstrate air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and refrigeration maintenance and repair methods and tools
