Job description

Position Overview

Northstar Preschools is seeking a reliable, hands-on Part-Time Maintenance Technician to support the upkeep and safety of our Dallas-area childcare centers. This role is responsible for general facility maintenance and repairs, ensuring our classrooms, playgrounds, and buildings remain safe, clean, and welcoming for children, families, and staff. This position may support multiple center locations within the North Texas region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general facility repairs, including doors, locks, fixtures, and minor structural issues
  • Complete routine and preventive maintenance on HVAC systems
  • Diagnose and repair plumbing issues, including leaks, clogs, and fixture replacement
  • Perform interior and exterior painting and touch-up work as needed
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests across assigned center(s)
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and address hazards to maintain a safe learning environment for children
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance schedules, and supply needs
  • Coordinate with Center Directors and Regional leadership on maintenance priorities and scheduling
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance and repair for center or fleet vehicles, when applicable (preferred)
  • Communicate clearly with center staff and leadership regarding job status, timelines, and any facility concerns

Qualifications

Experience

  • 5+ years of general maintenance or facilities experience preferred

Skills

  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems and basic troubleshooting
  • Plumbing repair experience (fixtures, leaks, basic installations)
  • Painting and general surface repair
  • General facility repair skills across electrical, carpentry, and structural systems
  • Vehicle repair and maintenance experience (preferred)
  • Strong written communication skills for documenting work and reporting issues
  • Strong verbal communication skills for coordinating with center staff and leadership
  • Ability to pass a background check, consistent with childcare licensing requirements
  • Valid driver's license required if traveling between center locations
