Part Time Logistician information

Can I work in logistics with no experience?

Part-time logisticians can often start with little or no prior experience, as many employers provide on-the-job training. Basic skills in organization, communication, and familiarity with inventory or transportation processes can be helpful, but certifications are not always required for entry-level roles.

What is the easiest job in logistics?

A part-time logistician role that involves basic tasks such as inventory management, data entry, and order processing is generally considered easier within logistics. These positions often require minimal physical effort and can be performed with basic organizational skills and familiarity with logistics software. They typically have flexible schedules and less complex responsibilities compared to more senior or specialized logistics roles.

What is a part time logistician?

Part time logisticians are professionals who manage and coordinate the movement of goods, resources, or information on a reduced work schedule, typically less than 40 hours per week. They may oversee inventory, track shipments, optimize supply chains, and ensure timely delivery of products. Part time roles can be found in various industries, including manufacturing, retail, and transportation. These positions are ideal for individuals seeking flexible hours while still contributing valuable organizational and problem-solving skills to a company.

What is the difference between Part Time Logistician vs Part Time Supply Chain Coordinator?

While both roles involve managing the movement of goods, a Part Time Logistician primarily focuses on planning and executing logistics operations, whereas a Part Time Supply Chain Coordinator handles broader supply chain activities, including coordination between suppliers and internal teams. Both roles require similar certifications and are used across industries like retail and manufacturing, but their specific responsibilities differ slightly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time logistician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Logistician, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a background in supply chain management or logistics, often supported by relevant coursework or certification. Familiarity with inventory management systems, ERP software, and basic Microsoft Excel is typically required. Excellent organizational skills, problem-solving ability, and effective communication set top performers apart in this role. These skills ensure efficient movement and tracking of goods, helping organizations optimize costs and meet delivery targets.

Are part time logisticians in demand?

Part time logisticians are in moderate demand as companies seek flexible staffing for supply chain management, inventory control, and transportation coordination. Skills in logistics software and certifications like APICS can enhance job prospects, especially in industries with complex logistics needs.

How does a part time logistician typically collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth operations?

Part-time logisticians play a vital role in coordinating with various departments, such as procurement, warehouse staff, and transportation teams, to ensure that goods move efficiently through the supply chain. They often participate in regular meetings, provide updates on shipment status, and help resolve scheduling or inventory issues. Effective communication and the ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities are essential, as part-time schedules may require logisticians to be particularly proactive in sharing information and tracking progress across shifts.

Job description

Part Time Mission Logistician (TS/SCI with Polygraph)
Leidos | Cyber & Analytics Business Area | Key Management & Analytics
Leidos is seeking an experienced Mission Logistician to join our Cyber & Analytics Business Area, Key Management & Analytics Division in a flexible, part-time role supporting critical national-security missions.
You'll help ensure mission-essential systems and equipment are accounted for, prepared, transported, and delivered where they're needed around the world. Working alongside system developers, integrators, technical teams, and mission partners, you'll play an important role in moving capabilities from integration to operational use and you'll do it with greater flexibility. Work with the program to create a part-time schedule that fits your availability while supporting mission needs. If you have government logistics experience and want to continue doing work that matters this is the career opportunity for you.
What You'll Do
As a Mission Logistician, you'll support the movement and accountability of government property and mission-critical systems throughout their lifecycle. The typical duties and responsibilities include;
  • Coordinate logistics and worldwide shipments supporting system integration, deployments, and system upgrades, working with system developers, integrators, and mission partners.
  • Manage inventory-control processes for property received, shipped, moved, transferred, or excessed.
  • Coordinate the storage and movement of inbound, interplant, and outbound materials, equipment, and finished goods.
  • Prepare equipment for shipment, including palletization, green-tagging, shrink-wrapping, and required shipping documentation in accordance with applicable agency requirements.
  • Prepare and process DD Form 1149 and documentation associated with Government Bills of Lading.
  • Track shipments worldwide and coordinate with destination sites to establish and confirm Arrival on Site (AOS).
  • Perform property-management and accountability functions in accordance with government guidance and industry best practices.
  • Maintain the Defense Property Accountability System (DPAS), including entries for incoming property, Line Item Receiving Reports, transfers, and excess property.
  • Complete required monthly inventory reports and maintain accurate, traceable property and shipping documentation.
  • Develop and improve processes for shipping, receiving, storage, material handling, inventory control, property transfer, and disposition.

Your experience will help identify and resolve logistics challenges before they affect delivery schedules or mission readiness.
What You'll Bring
This role requires an experienced logistics professional with a strong understanding of government property accountability, inventory management, transportation, and material handling.
Basic Qualifications
  • Ten (10) years of experience working as a Logistician.
  • Experience with government property-accounting processes, including associated forms and documentation.
  • Knowledge of automated inventory-control systems.
  • Professional experience with ordering, processing, shipping, receiving, packaging, material handling, property accountability, and disposition of excess property.
  • Practical experience processing Government Bill of Lading documentation and DD Form 1149.
  • Experience coordinating logistics activities and maintaining accurate government property and inventory records.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.

Program Requirement: This position requires ten (10) years of experience as a Logistician in accordance with the program's established labor-category requirements.
Why This Opportunity?
The equipment you'll support isn't simply inventory; it represents capabilities developed for critical national-security missions.
A shipment that arrives on time can enable a deployment. Accurate property accountability keeps systems moving. Strong logistics execution helps ensure mission teams have the capabilities they need, where and when they need them.
Within Leidos' Cyber & Analytics Business Area, Key Management & Analytics Division, you'll work alongside professionals supporting sophisticated national-security capabilities in areas including Security Engineering, Computer Network Operations (CNO), Mission Software, Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), Cryptographic Key Management, and systems integration.
