MetroStar is seeking a highly skilled Sr. Part-Time Linux Systems Engineer I to serve as the primary technical owner for enterprise Linux and on-premises infrastructure environments supporting mission-critical federal operations. This position is fully onsite and requires an experienced engineer who can independently manage Linux systems, maintain operational stability, and drive infrastructure modernization while ensuring security, reliability, and performance.

What you'll do:
  • Administer, maintain, and optimize Linux servers across production and non-production environments.
  • Provision, configure, and decommission physical and virtual servers within enterprise data center environments.
  • Monitor system health, performance, and capacity to ensure maximum uptime and operational reliability.
  • Lead operating system patch management activities, including testing, scheduling, deployment, validation, and reporting of security and OS updates.
  • Implement and maintain security hardening standards, vulnerability remediation efforts, and compliance requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues involving Linux operating systems, hardware, networking, storage, and virtualization technologies.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to improve system stability and prevent recurring issues.
  • Automate routine administration tasks such as provisioning, patching, monitoring, and reporting to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Maintain monitoring, logging, backup, and disaster recovery solutions that support resilient operations.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure standards, system builds, operational procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Partner with cybersecurity, networking, and operations teams to support mission requirements and infrastructure initiatives.
  • Provide technical recommendations to leadership regarding infrastructure upgrades, modernization efforts, and operational improvements.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of systems, architecture, configurations, processes, and recovery procedures.
  • Participate in planned maintenance activities and occasional after-hours support when required to maintain operational continuity.

What you'll need to succeed:
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux environments.
  • Strong experience supporting:
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
    • Linux server administration and troubleshooting
    • Physical and virtual server environments
    • Enterprise patch management and vulnerability remediation
    • VMware virtualization
    • Enterprise storage and file systems
    • TCP/IP networking fundamentals
  • Experience implementing security hardening standards, including DISA STIGs and federal cybersecurity best practices.
  • Experience managing operating system patching, testing, deployment, and validation.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical production environments.
  • Proficiency with scripting and automation using Bash, Python, Ansible, or similar technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across operating systems, hardware, networking, storage, and virtualization platforms.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance.

SALARY RANGE:$140,000 - $150,000
The salary range for this position is determined based on qualifications, skills, and relevant experience. The final salary offered will be determined based on several factors including:
  • The candidate's professional background and relevant work experience
  • The specific responsibilities of the role and organizational needs
  • Internal equity and alignment with current team compensation
  • This role is also eligible for additional compensation, subject to the terms and policies of MetroStar, which may include:
    • Performance-based bonuses
    • Company-paid training and/or certifications
    • Referral bonuses
