Summary
Under the general supervision of the Children's Librarian and the Head of Children's Services, shelves books and other materials; processes books (stamping, security, date due slips, spine labels and protective covers); maintains shelves in proper order and neatness; cleans books and CD's; organizes magazine collection; helps with closing procedures at closing time.
This is a part-time position (3 to 12 hours per week), one evening per week plus a weekend rotation including Saturday and Sunday. There are (6) positions available.
Position Description and Job Functions
Essential Duties:
  • Shelves library materials.
  • Processes materials and follows and established procedures.
  • Helps maintain order in the library.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Helps at the Circulation Desk, charging and discharging only.
  • Assists patrons with loading and unloading computer games.
  • Helps maintain order in the play area.
  • Answers directional questions.
  • Helps with special projects as needs arise.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Has skills and knowledge generally acquired through the first two years of high school.
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills with both children and adults, in person and over the telephone.
  • Understand the Dewey Decimal system.

Conditions and Qualifications
REQUIRED PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to move throughout the Library and other Town sites.
  • Ability to get into and out of an automobile.
  • Ability to read fine print materials.
  • Ability to lift books and other materials, weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds, from shelves ranging from 1' to 8' from the floor and return them to their proper place(s).
    • Ability to work in office and public setting subject to continuous interruptions and background noises.
    • Ability to sit at a desk or stand and work continuously for extended periods of time..
    • Ability to carry supplies and equipment in excess of 25 pounds.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Skills and knowledge would generally be acquired through some high school courses.
  • Need to be energetic and detail oriented.
