Position is part-time, 48% FTE and is not eligible for pro-rated benefits.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including at least one evening per week and a weekend rotation. The weekend rotation includes Saturday and Sunday hours.
Although this position is based at Southwest Regional Library, the person in this position may be asked to work at other locations.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Maintains the appearance of books, materials and space in the library and provides routine customer service to library patrons.
Work is performed under regular supervision of the Page Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Loads books and materials onto book carts and arranges them in alphabetical or numerical order for shelving
  • Places books and materials on shelves in the proper order and reviews shelves for items that are out of place
  • Organizes and shifts materials on shelves to reduce and eliminate crowding
  • Empties book returns and checks in library materials
  • Picks up books and materials that are no longer in use from tables and chairs and returns to proper location
  • Pulls customer holds and stocks library displays
  • Searches shelves for lost books
  • Clears away trash and debris on shelves
  • Directs patrons to various parts of the library
  • Assists with special projects that support the library's strategic plan; and
  • Performs related tasks as needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Some knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic
  • Ability to sort and file alphabetically and numerically
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to push fully loaded book carts and to lift and carry moderate weights
  • Ability to work cooperatively with all library patrons and employees
  • Demonstrates good judgment, accuracy orderliness, and reliability
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to sixteen years of age and completion of tenth grade.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to speak Spanish

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy. Work involves standing, squatting, stooping, bending, and lifting as well as pushing fully loaded book carts.
