Library Assistant (Part-Time)

The Brearley School, an independent girlsโ€™ school serving over 780 students K-XII, welcomes candidates for a part-time Library Assistant beginning immediately. The Library Assistant is an efficient, organized, technologically proficient person who is flexible and takes initiative.

The Library Assistant works with the three full-time Librarians in support of Brearleyโ€™s two libraries (Lower School and Middle/Upper School). Hours are are listed:

Monday, Wednesday: 1:00โ€“6:30 pmย ย 

Tuesday, Thursday: 1:00โ€“7:30 pm

Friday: 1:00โ€“5:00 pmย

Responsibilities include:

  • Checking in and shelving library materials

  • Assisting patrons with check out

  • Processing and cataloging new materials from various vendors

  • Assisting with clerical duties

  • Preparing and distributing overdue notices

  • Assisting students, faculty and staff in locating materials for curriculum and for pleasure reading

  • Assisting with library programs

  • Assisting with creating bulletin boards, displays, and the physical appearance of the library spaces

  • Assisting with maintenance of library office and supplies

  • Troubleshooting basic technical issues with computer, printers and other equipment

Qualifications include:

  • College degree or equivalent experience and computer skills (required)

  • Experience with K-12 students or in a school

  • Enrollment in or recently graduated from an accredited Library/Information Science Masterโ€™s program (preferred)

  • Genuine passion for literature for young people

  • Sincere interest in supporting the learning and growth of young people

  • Excellent communications skills

  • Fairness, consistency and the desire to collaborate

  • Commitment to helping visitors to the library explore and assist patrons in finding what they need

Salary

The hourly salary for this position ranges from $32.00 to $35.00.ย
