Job description

Adult Services Assistant

(Part-time, averages 22.5 hours per week. Pay starts at 17.00/hour)

  2. Are you available to work a week day and/or morning shift starting at 8:30am?
  3. Are you available to work a weekday evening shift starting at 2pm?
  4. Are you available to work Friday from 8:30am to 5pm every other week?
  5. Are you available to work Saturday and Sunday every other week?

Reports To

This position reports to the Adult Services Manager.

Job Overview

Adult Services Assistants contribute significantly to the day-to-day operations of the library by performing clerical duties and providing customer service to patrons.They use their knowledge of technology and other processes to assist patrons with a variety of needs.

Adult Services Assistants multi-task, problem solve, exude patience, and teach people new skills surrounding technology.Their primary job function is to identify the patron’s need and help the patron meet that need.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provides outstanding customer service in person, via phone, and via email
  • Assists patrons with technology needs related to computers, smartphones, tablets, printing, copying, faxing, and online resources such as eBooks and databases
  • Processes interlibrary loan requests
  • Creates displays and marketing materials
  • Contributes to the library’s online presence
  • Assists with research involving online resources and microfilm
  • Provides notary, proctoring, and passport application services
  • Assists colleagues with special events and other projects as assigned
Qualifications
  • Some college and two years of customer service preferred. Other combinations of experience and/or education may be considered 
  • Ability to communicate well with others
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work while exceeding the expectations of library patrons
  • Ability to work independently with little direct supervision
  • Ability and desire to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work regularly scheduled shifts (including daytime, evening, and weekend hours) and flexibility to work extra hours as needed
  • Regular and predictable attendance (this position averages 22.5 hours per week over a four-week rotation)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to exert up to 40 lbs. of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
  • Raising or lowering an object from one level to another, to including reaching and repetitive tasks
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, push, pull, grasp, and bend repeatedly
