GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides excellent information on print and digital resources in a friendly and engaging manner on a public service desk for youth, their caregivers, and educators. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to effectively work with multicultural communities and enjoy connecting with children of all ages.
This position works under the supervision of a Library department head.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist children, their caregivers and educators with informational questions and book recommendations in person and over the phone.
  • Assists patrons with the use of technology on public service desk, on floor, in programs, and during community outreach
  • Assists in marketing of library programs, which may include social media and other tools
  • Assists with marketing and executing programs under the supervision of the appropriate Library Department Head
  • Helps maintain the appearance of the department; checks the shelving of materials and preregisters patrons for programs, collects and maintains program and departmental statistical information
  • Assists with programs, events, and collection development
  • Assists with inventory
  • Continually strive to bolster readers' advisory skills by keeping current with authors, books, genres and reading trends among patron base
  • Must be proficient with digital resources including library vendor products for e-books and digital audiobooks, databases, downloading and streaming using current devices to assist patrons in efficiently navigating the digital library
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to perform in a courteous and professional manner at all times
  • Possess a genuine interest in representing the library in a positive, thoughtful, and empathetic manner when interacting with the public
  • Ability to express oneself succinctly and professionally, both orally and in writing
  • The ability to work independently and apply new technologies in a learning environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends and experience providing readers' services
  • Proficiency in computer software such as Microsoft Office suite

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Previous work with children and families in an educational environment
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience

SCHEDULE
  • Hours fluctuate based on operational and seasonal needs; Must be available to work Saturday and Sunday (Sept-April), occasionally some evenings from 5pm - 8pm.

AFFILIATION
  • Non-Bargaining Unit, Part-Time Position; 19.5 hours or less
