Job description

Part-time Circulation Assistant
Reports To
This position reports to the Public Services Manager.
Pay Wage
$17.00 Hourly, dependent on Library specific experience.
Job Overview
Circulation Assistants contribute significantly to the day-to-day operations of the library by performing clerical duties and providing customer service to patrons. They use their knowledge of books and other library materials to make recommendations and help locate items.
An essential duty of all positions is to provide outstanding customer service and educate patrons on library services.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Provides outstanding customer service in person, via phone, and via email
  • Checks out items, places holds, and performs other circulation services for patrons
  • Processes library card applications and orients patrons to library services
  • Assists patrons in finding items and answering general library questions
  • Assists with shelving and processing returns as needed
  • Assists with scanning, faxing, and copying
  • Assists colleagues with special events and other projects as assigned
  • May have scheduled hours and/or fill in as needed in the Adult Services department

Qualifications
  • Some college preferred
  • Ability to communicate well with others
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work while exceeding the needs of library patrons
  • Ability to work independently with little direct supervision
  • Ability and desire to work as part of a team
  • Ability to learn and navigate various pieces of software and online tools
  • Technological proficiency including the ability to explain basic computer skills and online resources to patrons
  • Ability to work regularly scheduled shifts (including daytime, evening, and weekend hour) and flexibility to work extra hours as needed
  • Regular and predictable attendance

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to exert up to 40 lbs. of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
  • Raising or lowering an object from one level to another, to including reaching and repetitive tasks
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, push, pull, grasp, and bend repeatedly

Schedule
This position averages 25 hours per week over a 4-week rotation. As of this posting, the schedule is as follows:
  • Mondays: 2 pm to 8 pm
  • Tuesdays: Off
  • Wednesdays: 8:30 am to 2 pm
  • Thursdays: 2 pm to 8 pm
  • Fridays: 8:30 to 5 pm (only one Friday per month)
  • Saturdays: 8:45 am to 4 pm (two Saturdays per month)
  • Sundays: 12:45 pm to 5 pm (two Sundays per month)
