The current vacancy is a maximum of 16-18 hours per week on average.

Some of the typical duties of the Library Aide I & II include but are not limited to, the following:
Library Aide I:
  1. May work with a team providing, planning, and/or directing in library programming, special projects, tours, etc.
  2. Opens, closes, and secures library building
  3. Supplies public copiers and printers with paper, ink, and toner
  4. Assists in keeping all areas of the Library in a clean, neat and orderly condition
  5. Conducts collection maintenance and inventory control
  6. May assist customers with a variety of transactions, equipment, and questions; may resolve issues with overdue, damaged, and lost items
  7. May collect fines and fees
  8. May assist with preparing new and replacement material for circulation
  9. Assist with meeting room use, including meeting space and/or event set-up and tear-down
  10. May perform light building maintenance duties
  11. May assist in the review and improvement of procedures
  12. May answer and direct telephone calls to the appropriate person/department

Library Aide II:
  1. Assists customers with a variety of transactions, equipment, and questions; resolves issues with overdue, damaged, and lost items.
  2. Collects fines and fees, may reconcile daily monetary transactions and deposits.
  3. Answers and directs telephone calls to the appropriate person/department.
  4. Technical processing of materials, including mending and withdrawing
  5. Assists with inventory control and collection development.
  6. May work independently or with a team providing, planning, and/or directing library programming, special projects, tours, etc.
  7. Assists with meeting room use, including meeting space and/or event set-up and tear-down.
  8. May perform light building maintenance duties.
  9. May help cover any of the duties of the Aide I position.

Education and/or Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Library Aide I:
Applicants must be able to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; demonstrate outstanding customer service skills; organize items numerically and alphabetically; read and write the English language; follow directions with special attention to detail; work independently; and maintain effective and positive relationships with coworkers.
Library Aide II:
Applicants must have any combination equivalent to graduation from high school or attainment of GED or CHSPE certificate and at least one year of significant customer service experience
Special Requirements:
Possession of a Class C California Driver's license and a satisfactory driving record during the course of employment.
Knowledge and Skills:
  1. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and be familiar with computer operations including web-based programs.
  2. Considerable knowledge of library operations; material processing procedures; acquisitions; public contact techniques; office methods and procedures; and Dewey decimal system. Demonstrated customer service and problem-solving skills; math and analytical skills; skill in operating and troubleshooting of a variety of computer, peripherals and software programs.

Selection Process:

Those candidates who are determined to be best qualified based upon the information presented on the application materials will be invited to continue in the selection process which may include a qualifying written or performance evaluation and will include an interview weighted 100%.
