Duties/Responsibilities What You'll Do As our new Counselor II, you will: Conduct client screenings and assessments to evaluate substance use severity, identify needs, and develop individualized treatment and discharge plans.

Provide individual, group, family, behavioral challenges, and family or peer-related issues. Collaborate with schools, law enforcement, courts, and community agencies to support clients and connect them with appropriate resources and treatment services. Monitor client progress, maintain accurate case documentation, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with mandated reporting requirements.

Respond to crisis situations and assist with intervention efforts involving at-risk youth, gang activity, family dysfunction, abuse, or other community concerns. Support prevention and education programs by maintaining program materials, updating curriculum content, and staying informed on current counseling practices, legislation, and community resources. What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who: Has knowledge of substance use disorders, addiction recovery, and counseling techniques for individuals, families, and groups.

Can assess client needs, conduct interviews, provide crisis intervention, and develop effective treatment or service plans. Maintains accurate, confidential case documentation and demonstrates strong organizational and recordkeeping skills. Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with clients, families, community partners, and City staff.

Is organized, exercises sound judgment and professionalism, and can effectively use computer systems, software applications, and modern business tools to support daily operations. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Education: Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in counseling, social work, clinical psychology, or a related field.

Experience: Three (3) years of experience in individual, small group, and family counseling, or the treatment and rehabilitation of substance abuse. Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment. Special Requirements Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Light Physical Effort: involved typical workplace tasks such as typing, writing, filing, and operating light office equipment, with no strenuous physical activities required.
