Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, passionate, and versatile Dance Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate is skilled in multiple styles and has a strong ability to engage, motivate, and develop dancers—from beginners to competitive performers. There is a tremendous amount of growth available for this role.

Company Description THE NEWMAN Dance Center is a studio in Annapolis, MD offering both recreational and competitive classes in dance, acro, and aerial arts. The center serves learners from 18 months through adult, creating a welcoming environment for a wide range of ages and skill levels. Classes are designed to develop technique, performance skills, confidence, and a love of movement. Instructors collaborate to support students’ personal goals, whether they are exploring dance for fun or training with a competitive focus. The center emphasizes safe instruction, positive encouragement, and opportunities for artistic growth.

Role Description The Dance Instructor is a full-time, on-site role based in Annapolis, MD. This role involves leading group and private classes for various ages and skill levels, including recreational and competitive students, across styles such as acro, aerial, and traditional dance disciplines. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and structuring lesson plans, teaching technique and choreography, demonstrating movements safely, and providing constructive feedback to support student progress. The instructor will prepare students for performances and competitions, collaborate with other staff on curriculum and studio events, and maintain an inclusive, respectful studio environment. Additional duties may include class administration, attendance tracking, communicating with families or caregivers, and contributing to studio outreach and community engagement.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Dance Instruction and Dance Education, with experience teaching diverse ages and skill levels.
  • Demonstrated ability in Teaching and Dance, including designing lesson plans and choreographing for classes, performances, or competitions.
  • Comfort working with Music as part of instruction, including musicality, timing, and coordination with choreography.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and guide students in a supportive manner.
  • Knowledge of safe movement practices, injury prevention, and appropriate technique for children and adults.
  • Previous studio, school, or community teaching experience; competitive team coaching is a plus.
  • Formal training or certification in dance, dance education, or related fields is preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends to meet class and performance needs.
