Our Phlebotomists play a vital role in our healthcare team, ensuring accurate and professional specimen collection. Join us as we provide Life Changing Medicine to our community.
Position: Part-Time Phlebotomist
Department: Phlebotomy Services
Location: UPMC Passavant - Cranberry
Shifts: 20 hours per week. Monday - Friday 9:30AM - 6PM with rotating Saturdays 7AM - 3PM. No Sundays or holidays required!
Responsibilities:
• Perform venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick procedures following proper patient identification protocols.
• Instruct patients on collection procedures for non-blood specimens and collect samples as required.
• May also perform arterial puncture following strict collection and post collection guidelines.
• Transport specimens safely from on-site and off-site collection areas to the appropriate lab section.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory and hospital policies, including quality assurance and infection control measures.
• Interact courteously and professionally with all laboratory customers and respond to telephone inquiries promptly.
• Perform clerical duties such as data entry, test ordering, specimen labeling, and verifying patient information.
• Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as assigned.
• Communicate unusual or problematic incidents to technical staff, supervisors, or pathologists.
• Receive, label, and prepare specimens for analysis while maintaining accuracy and integrity.
• Order, organize, and maintain inventory of supplies; check expiration dates and stock patient care areas.
• Provide clear instructions to patients regarding specimen collection and address concerns with professionalism and empathy.
*Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
*Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program is preferred.
• Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy is preferred.
• Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, and Clearances:
• Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.
• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
• Act 33 with renewal
• Act 34 with renewal
• Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
