Job description

CNC Machinist – Full-Time or Part-Time

Elyria Plastic Products is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist with setup experience to join our team!

Full-Time Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM

Part-Time Opportunities Available!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, and sample parts to determine finished dimensions and tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.

  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, and grinders.

  • Calculate and set machine controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.

  • Start and observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or programs as required.

  • Verify conformance of finished workpieces to specifications.

  • Communicate with engineers, production personnel, programmers, and others to exchange technical information.

  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematical knowledge and precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, indicators, and other gauges.

  • Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency.

  • Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment as needed.

  • Work with programmers to check and ensure new programs and machinery function properly and produce parts that meet specifications.

  • Design and manufacture fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts to meet special engineering needs.

  • Evaluate procedures and recommend changes or modifications to improve efficiency and adaptability in setup and production.

REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Certification or degree in CNC programming, manufacturing, engineering, or a related field preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education or certification.

  • Previous CNC machining and setup experience.

  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently stoop, crawl, climb, and crouch as required.

  • Above-average computer, reading, communication (verbal and written), and shop math skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
