Job Overview

Job Summary

The Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens (DABG) is seeking a motivated Business student to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit operations through a Maintenance Operations Internship. This position provides experience in budgeting, asset management, maintenance coordination, and operational planning while supporting the maintenance and long-term sustainability of our grounds.

Interns will work closely with the Grounds Supervisor, Executive Director, and key volunteers on projects that improve the DABG's facilities, equipment, and grounds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess buildings, grounds structures, and equipment to verify inventory accuracy and identify maintenance needs.
  • Research and collect replacement costs for equipment and infrastructure to support budgeting, grant applications, and long-term planning.
  • Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules for equipment, buildings, water features, and other assets on the grounds.
  • Assist with creating indoor and outdoor maintenance budgets.
  • Recommend facility improvement projects.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in Business, Operations Management, Finance, Accounting, Project Management, or related program.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • May need to work in all kinds of weather conditions due to outside projects.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
