Job Description: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Youth Mentor

Reports to: Campus Supervisor, Nursing Director

Status: Part-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Pay: $18.00+ depending on experience and education


We are currently hiring for the following shifts:

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 7am-3pm

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 3pm-11pm

Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday: 7am-3pm

Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday: 3pm-11pm

Each shift includes Sundays twice a month.

Young people struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, and emotional dysregulation come to Telos to find healing and support. You will play a key role in maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment while helping clients navigate emotional and behavioral challenges in daily life. Staff build meaningful relationships with clients while supporting emotional regulation, crisis de-escalation, and the implementation of therapeutic skills outside of formal therapy sessions.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Direct Student Care & Therapeutic Support
  • Provide direct supervision of students to maintain safety and emotional well-being
  • Establish and model healthy, professional, and appropriate boundaries with students.
  • Build trusting relationships that promote accountability, resilience, healthy decision-making, and emotional growth.
  • Support students through emotional and behavioral crises using de-escalation, co-regulation, behavior management, and other approved therapeutic techniques.
  • Help students identify triggers, practice coping skills, and apply therapeutic interventions in real-life situations.
  • Maintain consistent structure, boundaries, rules, statuses, and therapeutic expectations within the residential environment.
  • Coach and assist students in achieving their daily basics
  • Support students in completing daily chores, hygiene, and other responsibilities by working alongside them, providing encouragement, and holding them accountable.
  • Coach students in understanding and meeting program requirements.
  • Observe, assess, and respond to behavioral, emotional, mental, and medical concerns.
  • Participate in healthy recreational and experiential activities designed to build connection and support emotional growth with students
Student Supervision, Safety & Crisis Response
  • Complete "eyes-on-student" Q15 checks immediately and accurately.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, including first aid situations, medical emergencies, behavioral crises, and other urgent situations.
  • Assist with AWOL situations as needed, including when not currently scheduled on shift.
  • Call Support Teams and initiate and participate in CPI-compliant therapeutic interventions, including approved holds and restraints, when necessary.
  • Complete a primary assessment following a hold, including vital signs and a general wellness check.
  • Facilitate appropriate consequences under the direction of the Campus Supervisor.
Medication Administration & Medical Care
  • Administer medications in accordance with training, certification, and Nursing procedures.
  • Administer appropriate PRN medications and provide minor medical interventions within the scope of training, certification, and established protocols.
  • Take responsibility for the medical needs of students during assigned shifts and remain vigilant regarding changes in their condition.
  • Take and document student vital signs as required.
  • Package and administer medications for students who are off campus for recreational outings, appointments, or other approved activities.
  • Obtain urinalysis (UA) samples for new admissions and additional UAs as requested.
  • Follow all Nursing procedures related to medication administration, medical documentation, and student medical care.
  • When available, serve as the primary staff member for outings and emergency hospital visits.
Documentation, Communication & Shift Responsibilities
  • Communicate and document student behaviors, progress, incidents, observations, medical concerns, assessments, and interventions accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Report medical concerns and changes in a student's condition promptly to Nursing.
  • Complete required Daily Charting each shift and complete Incident Reports (IRs) as required.
  • Ensure the program is clean, organized, and presentable each shift
Teamwork, Collaboration & Reporting Structure
  • Collaborate with therapists, supervisors, Nursing, and other treatment team members to support individualized student goals and treatment plans.
  • Report to the Nursing Director regarding medication and medical responsibilities while continuing to report to the Shift Supervisor for residential, operational, and general shift responsibilities.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Active EMT Certification
  • Ideal for former athletes, coaches, military personnel, healthcare workers, or those comfortable with confrontation, de-escalation, and responding to medical needs
  • Requires strong presence, emotional control, and the ability to influence behavior in real time
