Position Summary:
Tetra Tech is seeking Archaeological Field Technicians for on-call, project-specific work throughout the Northeast. We are looking for reliable crew members capable of maintaining high standards of field excavation and data collection under demanding conditions.
Essential Job Functions:
The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:
Required Qualifications:
  • Education: B.A. in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field.
  • Experience: Completed archaeological field school required. Non-degreed candidates will be considered with 3+ years of documented field experience. Candidates with limited field experience may be considered for junior/entry-level positions.
  • Teamwork: Strong ability to work in team situations and maintain a positive, collaborative attitude in challenging field environments.
  • Field Skills: Must be proficient in Phase I and Phase II excavation techniques, including shovel testing, unit excavation, and accurate soil description.
  • Technical: Proficiency with Tablet-based ESRI data collection and the ability to maintain clear field notes. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office software applications is required.
  • Communication: Ability to read/interpret technical maps and communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors to meet project deadlines.

Physical Requirements:
  • Travel: Must be available for out-of-town assignments. Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
  • Stamina: Ability to hike long distances over rugged terrain while carrying up to 45 lbs of gear.
  • Environment: Willingness to work outdoors in all Northeast weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, and mud).
  • Compliance: Pre-employment drug screen may be required in accordance with state/federal regulations.
