Temporary Position Title
Wellness Curriculum Instructor- (Strength Training)
Temporary Position Summary
The Department of Campus Wellness is interested in candidates with experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and who possess a strong commitment to undergraduate education through student engagement. As a part-time Wellness Curriculum employee, instructors will be primarily responsible for developing and implementing classroom instruction in a specific discipline of health and fitness throughout the academic year. Additionally, instructors will be responsible for evaluating and providing comprehensive services to students, in alignment with the division of student affairs' Strategic Plan, that will advance student health and wellness. These courses fulfill the institution's general education wellness requirements for graduation. This is a temporary assignment ineligible for any benefits offered by Spelman College.
Temporary Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implement the College's philosophy, curriculum, program outcomes, and course objectives through teaching
  • Teach Wellness Curriculum courses within the strength training discipline
  • Assume responsibility for all autonomous aspects of individual teaching assignments
  • Manage courses through systematic use of syllabi โ€ข Evaluate and provide documented feedback to student on level of performance based on course objectives
  • Orient and maintain current knowledge related to procedures and expectations
  • Keep accurate records of students' class performance, attendance, and grades
  • Develops and posts written assignments consistent with student's knowledge base, skill competency and individual learning needs
  • Grade homework, quizzes, tests, assignments, and other written work in a timely manner
  • Keep Director of Wellness Operations informed of all student and departmental issues and concerns
  • Report to the Director or Assistant Director of Wellness who will provide direct oversight
  • Attend part-time faculty orientation prior to the beginning of the semester

Required Qualifications
Master's degree required with a minimum of 3 - 5 years of related working experience, preferably in exercise science, health education, physical education or recreation and/or other related fields.
This position is customer service focused. Effective oral and written communication skills and excellent time management skills are required. The individual must have a professional demeanor and be able to interface with internal and external customers diplomatically. Independent judgment is necessary to plan, prioritize and execute the duties of this position.
Must be able to organize a diversified workload with attention to detail, generate spreadsheets, graphs, and Power Point presentations.
The individual must be able to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions. Excellent oral communication skills are required when providing information and responding to questions from students, employees and faculty in one-on-one or group situations. The individual must be able to write business correspondence and procedure manuals plus compose memos, letters, and emails. Good proofreading skills are essential.
