This is a part-time, per class rate, exempt field position. This position may require early mornings (5:30/6:30am) and/or evening hours (after 5:00 p.m.) as class needs warrant and schedules are set for those classes for which any given instructor holds appropriate certification to teach.
OVERVIEW:
The Group Exercise Instructor plans, instructs, and leads members participating in group exercise programs; ensures the proper maintenance of fitness center exercise and audio equipment; demonstrates proper exercise techniques; assists members by answering questions about CLUB4 Fitness and promotes repeat attendance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and or ability required.
  • Prepares choreography and instructs members in various levels of group exercise techniques.
  • Maintains order and control over members participating in group exercise activities.
  • Obtains, maintains, and secures fitness and audio equipment in compliance with acceptable standards to ensure the long life of equipment.
  • Protects the CLUB4 Fitness interests by observing and preventing potential for liabilities due to injuries; ensures the safety of all participants.
  • Ensure members submit printed ticket for each class attended to document class attendance and appropriate membership type.
  • Provides excellent and courteous customer service to members; maintains awareness of and promotes all group exercise activities; encourages continuous attendance.
  • Promotes an engaging and welcoming environment to all employees, members, and visitors.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all studios are clean and organized and all Group Fitness equipment is properly maintained.
  • Attending group fitness meetings as assigned by the Group Exercise Director, Managing Partner, or the Group Exercise Manager of any region or Club.
  • Performs all other related work as assigned.

**Of special note: All department directors, personal trainers, and group exercise instructors assigned to the respective club report directly to the General Manager when on-site at any CLUB4 facility.**
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
The position reports directly to the assigned Group Exercise Manager under the direction of the Regional Group & Small Group Manager for that region.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Knowledge, skills & abilities:
  • Hard working, goal oriented, enthusiastic, and energetic.
  • Solid work ethic with strong decision-making skills
  • Self-starter who takes initiative with minimal direction and supervision
  • Superior customer service skills, preferably in the fitness industry
  • Solid supervisory, diplomacy and listening skills.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism.
  • Certifications in specific Group Exercise Programming

2) Minimum certifications/education/experience level:
  • One (1) year of previous experience leading specific group exercise programming as instructor
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • Certification relevant to fitness class being taught (e.g., Les Mills certifications)
  • CPR/AED Certification
  • First Aide Certification
