Job description

Opportunity at a Glance
The Village of Orland Park, a dynamic and progressive community of approximately 60,000 residents, seeks to fill a Part-Time Plumbing Inspector position within our Development Services Department. This part-time position is responsible for performing inspection work in assuring compliance with state and municipal ordinances and regulations governing new or existing plumbing installations. The position will be scheduled 20-29 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
The Part-Time Plumbing Inspector assures through inspections that municipal requirements are met for plumbing installations and that all codes and ordinances pertaining to new or existing plumbing are followed. Regularly exercises technical judgment based on familiarity with the State of Illinois and village plumbing codes and a wide variety of plumbing installation, repair or maintenance problems. Reviews plumbing plans submitted by contractors to determine compliance with village plumbing code. Inspects soil, water, and vent lines of plumbing system, sewer lines, plumbing fixtures, and traps for compliance with the village code. Determines amount of water needed for commercial structures and recommends size of service line and water meter. Checks installation of vents for hot water equipment such as gas heaters/automatic electric heaters and other devices designed for industrial, commercial and residential use. Compiles evidence for prosecution of violators of plumbing code. Inspects plumbing installation in progress and completed installations for workmanship and use of proper materials; makes recommendations for changes to Village Plumbing Code. Inspects businesses for possible violations prior to issuance of annual business license. Confers with supervisor on difficult enforcement problems; investigates building and zoning complaints from general public and other departments and advises as to possible solutions. Prepares reports and maintains records of work performed; maintains and makes repairs on plumbing systems in Village owned properties. Provides verbal and written interpretations on the Plumbing Code. Keeps records of inspections performed, actions taken, and corrections recommended and secured. If qualified, inspects cross connections to prevent contamination of water supply. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Two to four years’ related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Training and or experience through recognized plumbing apprenticeship program or equivalent is preferred.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Illinois Plumbing License Cross-Connection Control Device Inspector License, preferred. Must have a valid Driver’s License.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly pay rate is $32.02 and $47.43 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
This position is an IMRF (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund) eligible position.
