Job Duties

The Danville Science Center is looking for a dedicated individual to join our team as Part-Time Housekeeping Assistant. In this role, you'll play a key part in ensuring an inviting environment for all guests by maintaining cleanliness both inside our exhibits and across the exterior of the facilities. From performing general housekeeping and sanitation tasks that support daily upkeep to exciting special events, your work helps bring the Science Museum's mission to life: inspiring all Virginians to enrich their lives through science. Please note that this is a part-time position and hours will vary each week based on operations but no more than up to 29 hours a week on average with a maximum of 1500 hours in a 12-month period. No state benefits are provided. Interested candidates must apply at https://jobs.virginia.gov 

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge of cleaning techniques, methods, materials, equipment, and chemicals for a wide variety of surfaces and materials and sanitation standards for a public facility. Strong communication skills; reliable, proactive, and able to work independently with consistent transportation. Knowledge of safety practices in using chemicals and cleaning equipment. Ability to perform a variety of cleaning tasks, including lifting and moving heavy objects (up to 50 pounds), frequent standing/walking, pushing/pulling, bending, and reaching. This position requires availability on nights, weekends, and holidays and candidates must be available to work an after business hours (5 p.m.) Tuesday - Thursday evening schedule.

Additional Considerations

Prior housekeeping, janitorial, or sanitation experience is a plus.
