Driver - Part-Time

Arvin Post Acute
Pay Range: $17.48-$18.00 per hour, based on experience

Help Our Residents Travel Safely and Comfortably

Arvin Post Acute is seeking a dependable and compassionate Part-Time Driver to provide safe transportation for residents attending medical appointments, approved activities, and community outings.

The ideal candidate is a certified CNA with a safe driving history, excellent judgment, and experience assisting individuals with mobility needs. This position requires schedule flexibility because appointments and activities may occasionally run later than expected.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Safely transport residents to medical appointments, activities, outings, and other approved destinations.
  • Assist residents with entering and exiting facility-approved vehicles.
  • Safely transfer residents into and out of wheelchairs.
  • Properly secure residents and wheelchairs inside facility vans.
  • Use approved clinical transfer and mobility techniques.
  • Support residents with patience, dignity, and respect throughout transportation.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable vehicle interior and exterior.
  • Inspect vehicles and promptly report safety concerns, damage, or mechanical problems.
  • Maintain vehicle inspection and maintenance logs.
  • Deliver vehicles for scheduled services, including oil changes, tire rotations, and repairs.
  • Follow all traffic laws, facility policies, and resident-safety procedures.
  • Maintain residents' privacy and protect confidential health information.
  • Communicate professionally with residents, families, coworkers, healthcare providers, and community partners.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must meet facility automobile-insurance eligibility requirements, including any applicable minimum-age requirement.
  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record required.
  • Current CNA certification required.
  • Must maintain all continuing education requirements necessary to keep CNA certification active.
  • Must be familiar with GPS navigation and the local driving area.
  • Must successfully complete a background check and drug screening.
  • Must demonstrate safe, clinically based transfer techniques for:
    • Assisting mobile residents with entering and exiting the van
    • Transferring residents into and out of wheelchairs
    • Properly securing wheelchair-bound residents inside the van
  • Ability to make sound decisions while transporting residents who may be highly dependent on assistance.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office programs preferred.
  • Must be flexible with working hours when appointments or resident activities run late.
Driving-Record Requirements

Candidates must satisfy the facility's driving and automobile-insurance standards, which may include:

  • No disqualifying traffic crimes within the past seven years.
  • No DUI, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, hit-and-run involving injuries, vehicular assault, or other serious traffic-related offenses.
  • No more than two moving violations within the past three years.
  • No more than one motor vehicle accident within the past three years.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read, write, and understand job-related instructions and manuals.
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to respond professionally to questions from residents, managers, and coworkers.
  • Ability to follow written, verbal, diagrammed, or scheduled instructions.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and respond calmly to changing circumstances.
  • Basic mathematical skills, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
Physical Requirements

This position requires regular sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and assisting residents with mobility. The employee must be able to lift, transfer, and mobilize residents weighing up to 70 pounds independently in the confined space of a vehicle and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds.
