Job Description
The School of Professional Studies seeks experienced industry professionals to serve as part-time Lecturer for a graduate-level course in Cloud Computing. Lecturers are the primary instructors for courses and an invaluable component of the faculty community.
This course introduces analytics students to applied cloud computing concepts and practices ranging from infrastructure and administration to services and applications. The course is primarily focused on the development of practical skills in utilizing cloud services to build distributed and scalable analytics applications.
Responsibilities
  • Lead class lectures, instructional activities, and classroom discussions. Attend all class sessions.
  • Monitor and address student concerns and inquiries.
  • Evaluate and grade student work and assessments.
  • Conduct office hours.

Qualifications
Columbia University SPS operates under a scholar-practitioner faculty model, which
enables students to learn from faculty possessing outstanding academic training as well
as a record of accomplishment as practitioners in an applied industry setting.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • Solid knowledge and academic foundation in distributed computing, UNIX operating system fundamentals and shell programming
  • Experience with the Linux operating system, cloud virtualization and storage systems
  • 3+ years of professional experience with at least one of the commercial cloud services (Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or IBM Cloud)
  • Knowledge of Python programming language

Preferred Skills & Experience
  • University teaching experience
  • Experience with setting up and configuring Google Cloud Platform services
  • Knowledge of distributed computing and orchestration frameworks, such as Apache Spark and Kubernetes
