Job Description
THE SCHEDULE FOR THIS POSITION IS NORMALLY MONDAY - FRIDAY 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
CLASSIFICATION TITLE: RECREATION CENTER WORKER - PART TIME
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to plan, monitor, and participate in recreation center activities and events. Duties include, but are not limited to, planning events, conducting classes/workshops, assisting participants, and maintaining facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Plans recreational activities and events and related special events; prepares proposals for activities/special events; prepares programs and schedules; requisitions necessary supplies.
• Provides supervision of facility and facility use; and implements recreation center rules and policies.
• Monitors activities and children; assists children with homework and arts/crafts; provides assistance in the use of the computer lab facilities; assists with basketball and volleyball games and tournaments; participates in a variety of games such as board games, kickball, and gymnasium activities.
• Coordinates, organizes and operates assigned programs such as after school youth programs and/or evening programs for young adults; assists with daily after school and special event activities calendar.
• Prepares bulletin boards; assists with setting up and returning rentals.
• Evaluates program activities; assesses needs and recommends program changes, modifications and/or development.
• Performs a variety of custodial tasks such as cleaning office, restrooms, locker rooms, kitchen, refrigerator, oven and dishes, plants flowers and grass.
• Maintains a variety of records pertaining to activities and attendance.
• Answers telephone and provides information, takes/relays messages, and/or refers as appropriate.
• Establishes effective working relationships and communication with community groups, program participants, customers, and the general public; serves as liaison and/or coordinates activities with committees, community organizations, other departments, schools and civic groups; assists in promoting and evaluating programs and offers support services as applicable; and responds to requests and inquiries regarding programs and activities.
• Reports to work on weekends, evening hours and/or holidays as scheduled and in support of special events and recreational activities; support all facets of programs and service delivery related to park and recreation programming.
• Ensures participant safety; intervenes in confrontations; responds to problems and initiates appropriate action; administers first aid/CPR when necessary.
• Maintains regular and predictable in person attendance during regular business hours of the City of Henderson is required.
• Must undergo and successfully complete drug test and alcohol screening prior to employment and undergo and successfully complete future drug test and/or alcohol screening pursuant to the City's Drug and Alcohol policy.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Performs other related duties as required, necessary, or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by one (1) year previous experience and/or training involving youth programs and activities required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Requires Blood Borne Pathogen Training.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
