What is a part time hospice RN?

Part Time Hospice Registered Nurses (RNs) are licensed nurses who provide compassionate care to patients with terminal illnesses, typically working less than full-time hours. Their responsibilities include managing pain and symptoms, providing emotional support to patients and families, and coordinating care plans with other healthcare professionals. Part Time Hospice RNs may work in patients' homes, hospice facilities, or nursing homes, focusing on improving the quality of life for those in the final stages of illness. Their schedules offer flexibility, making this role suitable for nurses seeking work-life balance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time hospice RN?

To thrive as a Part Time Hospice RN, you need strong clinical nursing skills, experience in pain and symptom management, and an active RN license, often with additional hospice or palliative care certification. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), medication administration systems, and home health documentation tools is common in this role. Compassion, excellent communication, and emotional resilience are crucial soft skills for supporting patients and families through end-of-life care. These skills ensure high-quality, empathetic care and effective collaboration within interdisciplinary hospice teams.

What are some common challenges faced by part time hospice RNs, and how can they effectively manage them?

Part-time hospice RNs often face challenges such as managing a fluctuating patient load, coordinating care across multiple shifts, and maintaining strong communication with the interdisciplinary team despite limited hours. To address these challenges, it's important to stay organized, proactively update documentation, and utilize handoff tools to ensure continuity of care. Building strong relationships with colleagues and staying connected via regular team meetings or digital communication platforms can also help part-time RNs stay informed and provide high-quality, compassionate care.

Job description

If you're a nurse who's ready to bring real clinical judgment back into your day instead of just checking off visits, this Home Health RN Case Manager role in Oklahoma City is worth a look. You'll work as part of a full care team, including LPNs and support staff, while playing a meaningful role in shaping the plan of care for your patients. It's the kind of nursing where you actually get to know your patients, not just their chart.

We're Interim HealthCare of Oklahoma City, a locally owned, Veteran and nurse owned home health, hospice, and personal care agency that's been part of this community since 1999. We hold a 4.5 star CMS rating, and our team stays rooted in OKC through things like Meals on Wheels and our monthly Veteran-to-Veteran coffees, so when you join us, you're joining a company that shows up for this city, not just a name on a badge. If you've spent years managing an unsustainable caseload at the bedside, this Home Health RN Case Manager role is built for someone like you who wants more autonomy and a real voice in patient care.

Schedule

  • Primarily Monday through Friday, with the flexibility to structure your day around your patients rather than a shift clock
  • Full time: two weekends per month, with a weekday off following each weekend worked
  • Part time: one weekend per month

What You'll Earn
We offer flexible pay structures for this role, either salary or per-visit, whichever fits you best:

  • Per-visit option: $40 per visit, plus $100 for every Start of Care, $75 for every Resumption of Care, and $60 for every Recertification
  • Salary option available for the right candidate

What You'll Enjoy

  • Health and dental coverage
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Paid mileage at $0.64/mile or a company vehicle
  • 401(k) with company match up to 4%
  • Company-paid life insurance
  • Short- and long-term disability
  • Weekly pay every Friday

What You'll Do

  • Play a hands-on role in developing and adjusting the plan of care for your patients, working alongside LPNs, therapists, and physicians
  • Complete visits, OASIS assessments, and documentation with an eye toward the full patient picture, not just the task in front of you
  • Coordinate with the care team so nothing falls through the cracks
  • Educate patients and families on diagnosis, medication, and home safety
  • Advocate for your patients and help drive real outcomes

What We're Looking For

  • Active RN license in Oklahoma
  • Home health experience is ideal, but we're also looking for experienced nurses from any clinical background who are ready for a change and bring strong assessment and critical thinking skills
  • CPR certification
  • A nurse who wants autonomy, real patient relationships, and a genuine say in the plan of care

If you're an experienced RN ready to step out of the bedside grind and into a role with real autonomy and a real voice in care, apply today.
