What is a part time hospice RN?

Part Time Hospice Registered Nurses (RNs) are licensed nurses who provide compassionate care to patients with terminal illnesses, typically working less than full-time hours. Their responsibilities include managing pain and symptoms, providing emotional support to patients and families, and coordinating care plans with other healthcare professionals. Part Time Hospice RNs may work in patients' homes, hospice facilities, or nursing homes, focusing on improving the quality of life for those in the final stages of illness. Their schedules offer flexibility, making this role suitable for nurses seeking work-life balance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time hospice RN?

To thrive as a Part Time Hospice RN, you need strong clinical nursing skills, experience in pain and symptom management, and an active RN license, often with additional hospice or palliative care certification. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), medication administration systems, and home health documentation tools is common in this role. Compassion, excellent communication, and emotional resilience are crucial soft skills for supporting patients and families through end-of-life care. These skills ensure high-quality, empathetic care and effective collaboration within interdisciplinary hospice teams.

What are some common challenges faced by part time hospice RNs, and how can they effectively manage them?

Part-time hospice RNs often face challenges such as managing a fluctuating patient load, coordinating care across multiple shifts, and maintaining strong communication with the interdisciplinary team despite limited hours. To address these challenges, it's important to stay organized, proactively update documentation, and utilize handoff tools to ensure continuity of care. Building strong relationships with colleagues and staying connected via regular team meetings or digital communication platforms can also help part-time RNs stay informed and provide high-quality, compassionate care.

Job description

If hospice is your calling, you already know it's not about tasks on a checklist. It's about presence. About walking alongside patients and families through one of the most important seasons of their lives. As a Hospice LPN with Interimย HealthCare of Oklahoma City, you'll deliver hands-on, one-on-one care and be a steady, compassionate presence when it matters most.

We've been locally owned and operated right here in OKC since 1999. We're Veteran- and nurse-owned, so we understand this work from the inside out. When you join our team, you're not a number. You're part of a community that's been showing up for this city for over 25 years.

Let's talk schedule

Our hospice census supports a part-time LPN caseload, and we want to be upfront about that. Here's how it works:

  • If part-time hospice works for your life, we can keep you hospice only.
  • If you want full-time hours, we can get you there by supplementing your hospice caseload with home health visits.

Either way, we'll build something that works for you.

What you'll earn

  • $30 per visit | $45 death visit
  • Home health visits if you supplement for full-time hours: $30 per visit (full time) | $22 per visit (part time)
  • Paid mileage at $0.64/mile
  • Weekly pay every Friday

On-call pay

  • $40/day Monday through Friday | $75/day Saturday and Sunday
  • This role includes a rotating on-call schedule, approximately one weekend per month.

What you'll enjoy (full-time team members)

  • Health, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • $25,000 company-paid life insurance policy
  • Stay Pay: a $100 bonus for each year of service
  • Employee recognition program with monthly drawings

What you'll do

  • Provide hands-on hospice care in patients' homes, following the plan of care
  • Manage symptoms and comfort, and support patients and families through end of life
  • Document visits and report changes to the case manager and hospice team
  • Work alongside RNs, aides, social workers, and chaplains
  • Be a calm, reassuring presence for patients and the people who love them

What we're looking for

  • Active LPN license in Oklahoma
  • Hospice experience required
  • Knowledge of hospice regulations and the Medicare hospice benefit
  • Strong clinical skills, communication, and a heart for end-of-life care
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license

If this is the work you were made for, we'd love to meet you. Apply today.
