Part-Time Registered Nurse (RN) – Assisted Living
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the clinical care services provided within the assisted living community in accordance with Minnesota Assisted Living regulations (Chapter 144G), Nurse Practice Act requirements, company policies, and resident-centered care standards.
This position plays a critical leadership role in ensuring resident safety, staff competency, regulatory compliance, quality clinical outcomes, and effective communication with residents, families, physicians, pharmacies, and community staff.
This is a part-time leadership position for a small 21-unit assisted living community. While the role is part-time in scheduled hours, it requires strong ownership, accountability, responsiveness, and proactive leadership. Compensation reflects the expectation that the RN acts as a clinical leader and takes pride in the overall success and compliance of the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Oversight
- Conduct initial nursing assessments and ongoing resident reassessments as required by Minnesota 144G regulations and resident condition changes.
- Develop, review, and update resident service plans and individualized care plans.
- Monitor resident health status and communicate changes to physicians, families, pharmacies, and appropriate providers.
- Ensure clinical services are delivered according to physician orders, resident preferences, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide oversight of medication management systems and delegated nursing services.
- Review incident reports, falls, infections, wounds, behavioral concerns, and other clinical issues to ensure appropriate follow-up and interventions.
Delegation and Supervision
- Delegate nursing tasks to unlicensed personnel in accordance with Minnesota Nurse Practice Act and Minnesota Statute 144G.62.
- Supervise and evaluate staff performing delegated nursing tasks, including medication administration and treatments.
- Conduct direct observation and competency evaluations of staff providing resident care.
- Ensure staff competency documentation is completed and maintained.
- Be available for clinical consultation to staff as required under Minnesota assisted living regulations.
Staff Training and Development
- Train and educate unlicensed personnel on resident care procedures, medication administration, infection control, documentation, emergency procedures, and delegated nursing tasks.
- Conduct new employee orientation and ongoing clinical in-services.
- Reinforce company standards, customer service expectations, and person-centered care practices.
- Identify performance concerns and participate in coaching, corrective action, and staff development.
Scheduling and Staffing Support
- Assist with staff scheduling and ensure adequate clinical staffing coverage.
- Collaborate with leadership to maintain staffing patterns that meet resident needs and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in hiring interviews and onboarding as needed.
- Help create a culture of accountability, teamwork, compassion, and professionalism.
Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure compliance with Minnesota Chapter 144G assisted living regulations and applicable federal and state requirements.
- Maintain accurate nursing documentation, assessments, service plans, delegation records, and supervisory documentation.
- Participate in surveys, audits, investigations, and quality assurance activities.
- Assist with policy implementation and regulatory preparedness.
Leadership and Ownership
- Demonstrate initiative and ownership in identifying and solving operational or clinical concerns.
- Serve as a leader, mentor, and resource for caregiving staff.
- Promote a positive culture focused on resident dignity, safety, compassion, and excellence.
- Support ownership and administration in achieving operational, clinical, and occupancy goals.
Qualifications
- Current Minnesota Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
- Assisted living, memory care, home care, or long-term care experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of Minnesota Assisted Living regulations (Chapter 144G).
- Experience training and supervising unlicensed personnel.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound clinical judgment.
- CPR certification required.
Schedule
- Part-time position with flexible scheduling.
- On-call clinical availability may be required periodically for staff support and urgent resident issues.
- Expected hours will vary based on resident acuity, admissions, staffing needs, and regulatory requirements.
