Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
HouseMaster Home Inspections serving Northern California is an established and widely utilized home inspection service located near San Jose, CA. We are looking to grow our team of professional home inspectors to better serve clients in San Jose, Santa Clara, San Francisco, Oakland and surrounding areas. Preference given to candidates with previous home inspection experience and/or training.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe inspector is expected to be available M-F and some Saturdays, work in various weather conditions, climb ladders, walk on roofs, access crawl spaces and attics, and stand for long periods of time. A working knowledge of home systems and basic residential construction, along with solid computer technology skills, are necessary. Punctuality, the ability to work independently, and a strong work ethic are also required.
The inspector must be detail-oriented, articulate, personable, and presentable, and must follow our standard process to complete an accurate, thorough, quality home inspection and detailed report. Paid training and paired inspections will be required regardless of previous experience and/or training. Compensation is based on experience and qualifications.
Typical job requirements include:
  • Drive to/from home inspections (insured personal vehicle required)
  • Perform complete exterior and interior property inspection according to company standards and industry standards of practice
  • Take clear photographs of inspected areas and document conditions found
  • Complete computerized inspection reports within 48 hours of inspection
  • Professionally interact with clients, agents and coworkers, both in person and via phone/email
  • Complete annual recertification and other training as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Previous home inspection experience and/or training preferred
  • Home inspection certification a plus (not required)
  • Experience in repairs/remodeling, construction or real estate considered
  • Computer proficiency and ability to learn new software programs
  • Valid driver's license and clear driving record for past 5 years
  • Reliable, insured personal vehicle that can accommodate ladder and other tools needed
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must speak/write English; other languages spoken a plus
  • Physically fit for climbing ladders, walking on roofs, accessing crawl spaces and attics, and standing for long periods of time, and able to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug test

OTHER CRITERIA
Candidates are required to pass a pre-employment background investigation and drug test. The industry certification test must be successfully achieved within 6 months of employment. A company mobile phone will be provided and must be returned upon ending employment. A company computer may be provided if candidate does not have a suitable personal computer for completing reports and communication. Inspector is expected to have own ladder and basic inspection tools; company may provide equipment as needed.
