What Does a Part-Time Home Health RN Do?

A part-time Home Health Registered Nurse (RN) uses their nursing skills to care for patients in their home. Your responsibilities include all phases of patient care in accordance with the patient’s health, age, and developmental needs. You also keep detailed records of their health. You work with physicians and healthcare teams to provide treatment and evaluate the patient as needed. You also monitor their psychological, cognitive, psychosocial, and cultural-spiritual status and complete relevant assessments. As an RN, there may be some duties that you are not qualified, so you may need to outsource to a different healthcare professional during your shifts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Home Health RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Home Health RN, you need strong clinical nursing skills, assessment abilities, and a valid RN license, often with experience in home health care. Familiarity with mobile health documentation systems, telehealth tools, and knowledge of Medicare/insurance regulations is typically required. Excellent time management, adaptability, and strong communication skills help build rapport with patients and coordinate care independently. These competencies are vital to ensure safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care in diverse home settings while meeting regulatory standards.

What is a Part Time Home Health RN?

A Part Time Home Health RN (Registered Nurse) is a licensed nurse who provides medical care to patients in their homes on a part-time basis. These nurses assess patient needs, administer medications, coordinate care plans, and educate patients and their families about managing health conditions. Working part-time allows for flexible scheduling, making it ideal for those seeking work-life balance. Home Health RNs play a crucial role in helping patients recover from illness or surgery, manage chronic conditions, and maintain independence at home.

Job description

PASSPORT HEALTH
Registered Nurse - Travel Medicine
Passport Health is North America's largest travel medicine and immunization provider, with 300+ clinics across the U.S. and Canada. We're looking for experienced RNs who are ready to step out of a high-pressure hospital or traditional clinic setting and into a role built around autonomy, specialized expertise, and genuine one-on-one patient connection.
What Makes This Role Different
You run your clinic. You own your patient experience.
Most of our nurses work independently - no charge nurse, no team overhead, no endless task lists. You manage your day by seeing your clients, and providing them with the best experience possible. You will be supported by a network of clinical leadership, but the day-to-day is yours.
Travel medicine is a specialty. You'll develop deep expertise in vaccine-preventable diseases, international health risks, and pre-travel health planning - knowledge most nurses never get to build. Every client interaction is a true consultation, not a check-the-box encounter.
Current Opening Details:
  • Location(s): Myrtle Beach, SC
  • Compensation: $40.00
  • Weekly Hours & Schedule: Part-time, 24 hours/week | 8-hour shifts | Days assigned based on clinic needs

What You'll Do
  • Conduct in-depth travel health consultations and educate client on destination-specific risks
  • Administer vaccines per standing orders and monitor for adverse reactions
  • Recommend and promote travel health products and medications as clinically appropriate
  • Manage clinic setup, inventory, and compliance with safety and documentation protocols
  • Support onsite corporate wellness or vaccine clinic events as needed
  • Complete ongoing travel medicine training - we invest in keeping your clinical knowledge current

Immigration Medical Services - Required at Select States (CO, MD, IL, FL, MO)
Some Passport Health locations also provide immigration-related medical services, including civil surgeon exams and required vaccinations for USCIS applicants. At these clinics, performing immigration physicals and maintaining strict USCIS documentation compliance is a required part of the role - not optional.
If the posting is in one of those listed states, or includes immigration services, this will be clearly noted. Training is provided, but attention to detail and comfort with regulated documentation workflows is essential.
Scheduling - The Honest Picture
Passport Health uses a census-based scheduling model, similar to what you may have seen in hospital or outpatient settings. We want you going in with realistic expectations. The nurses who thrive here are those who value the trade-off: less rigidity, more autonomy, and the ability to build a schedule that works for their life and for the business needs, even if that means some week-to-week variability.
Here's what that means in practice:
  • Hours are based on client demand, which varies by location and season
  • We create a schedule that offers 6-12 months of consistency, helping provide stability, while recognizing that hours are not guaranteed in some markets
  • To support schedule planning and consistency, we require availability within these scheduling windows, which allows us to provide a clear, forward-looking view of your work schedule
  • We do our best to honor availability, and flexibility (preferred day/time coverage, weekends, or willingness to cover multiple locations) can increase your scheduled hours
  • Peak travel seasons (typically February-August) generally bring higher and more stable volume

What You Need to Succeed
  • Active RN license in good standing
  • 2+ year of clinical nursing experience (travel medicine background a plus, not required)
  • Comfortable working independently - you won't always have backup in the clinic
  • Strong patient communication and education skills
  • Reliable access to a personal computer (training systems require desktop or laptop)
  • Proficiency with Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Meet)
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification
  • Ability to lift and transport vaccine inventory as needed

Ideal For Nurses Who
  • Are adaptable - comfortable shifting gears between high-volume and consultative modes
  • Want the range of both clinic types without switching locations
  • Are reliable for weekend coverage and flexible with scheduling

Ready to apply?
If you're an experienced RN who's ready for something different - a role where your clinical judgment is trusted and your patient relationships matter - we'd love to hear from you.
