JOB SUMMARY
The Development Department secures funding to advance The New York Historicalโ€™s mission, fostering relationships with individuals, foundations, and corporations to raise philanthropic support, driving membership growth, working with government funders, and securing contributed revenue through event rentals in our landmarked building.
The Prospect Researcher supports the New York Historicalโ€™s fundraising and advancement goals by identifying, researching, and qualifying prospective individual, foundation, corporate, and institutional donors. The Prospect Researcher provides timely, accurate, and actional intelligence that enables Museum leaders and development staff to build meaningful relationships with prospective supporters and maximize opportunities.
This is a part-time role working up to twenty-four hours a week.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  • Produce research briefings and capacity assessments for donors and prospective donors. Conduct financial and biographical research, identify and analyze wealth indicators, assign ratings based on detailed wealth analysis, and write research reports and briefings;
  • Identify new prospects. Track external and internal sources for new prospects, producing prospecting ideas for exhibitions, education, capital, and other priority initiatives;
  • Ensure that fundraising initiatives have sufficient prospects to meet fundraising goals;
  • Participate in prospect strategy development and recommend prioritization of prospects;
  • Oversee data screening, mining and modeling to support prospect identification, segmentation, and engagement;
  • Additional duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree; a minimum of three years experience in prospect and fundraising research;
  • Knowledge of the New York City philanthropic and cultural communities;
  • Ability to initiate and perform complex analyses and organize information to identify philanthropic patterns, tendencies, and relationships among individuals, corporations and foundations;
  • Proficiency in internet research, including experience with information resources and publications relevant to private philanthropy, online services, and database screening and overlays;
  • Familiarity with wealth screening and its application to fundraising, giving capacity modeling and forecasting methodologies;
  • Excellent writing skills and meticulous attention to detail;
  • Professionalism, ethical sensitivity and discretion;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly;
  • High degree of fluency with development CRM systems, preferably Tessitura;
  • Commitment to and enthusiasm for the mission of The New York Historical;
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee with or without accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This is largely a sedentary role using a computer; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stoop as necessary.
COMPENSATION
Salary: $40/hour
