Title: Hourly Data AnalystDepartment:Asst/Assoc ProfessorReports To:Assistant ProfessorPosition Summary:

Center for Solar Terrestrial Research (CSTR) of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in Newark, New Jersey invites applications for an hourly data analyst who is expected to design, operate, and maintain electrical and electronic systems for solar-terrestrial research at NJIT in Newark. CSTR is a worldwide leading institution in solar and space physics, operating scientific instruments for geospace environment studies in the polar regions including the Arctic and Antarctic.

The position is anticipated to start in August 2026. The selected candidate will work primarily with Professor of NJIT, Dr. Hyomin Kim as well as the other faculty members and engineers from the other institutes.

The deadline for applications is August 10th, 2026. Candidates will need to submit a curriculum vitae, a brief statement of research or work experiences, and the names of three professional references. Questions may be directed to Hyomin Kim (hmkim@njit.edu).

Essential Functions:

  • Operation, service/maintenance, and upgrade of scientific instruments such as magnetometers, RF transmitter/receivers, imaging systems.

  • Data acquisition and transmissionover the internetor Iridium satellite link.

  • Design/construction of a 100-200-W level, battery-operated power platform with solar panels and wind turbines for reliable, autonomous data acquisition and transmission in extremely cold weatherconditions.

  • Data processing for scientific applications.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in electrical engineering or related field.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally and perform field work in remote locations.

  • Excellent verbal/written communication skill to work with researchers and engineers.

Compensation:
  • $40/hour

At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Range:Hourly Employees
