Job description

Gurwin Healthcare System is a full continuum of care providing extraordinary care and caring to the people that we serve. Set on a 36-acre campus in Commack, NY, the Gurwin Healthcare System includes the 460-bed Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, providing short-term rehabilitation and long-term skilled nursing care, memory care, respiratory and ventilator care, palliative and hospice care, social and medical adult day programs, and on-site dialysis and infusion therapy. Sharing the campus is Gurwin’s Assisted Living community (Gurwin Jewish ~ Fay J. Lindner Residences), our independent living community (Fountaingate Gardens) and Gurwin Certified and Licensed Home Care Services Agencies.

Our innovative facility and growing services offer opportunities to advance your career. We are currently seeking a part-time laundry attendant for the day shift.  You will be scheduled 19 hours per week

1st week:    Tuesday 8:30am-4:30pm, Wednesday 8:00am-12:00pm, Friday 8:30am-4:30pm

2nd week:   Tuesday 8:30am-4:30pm, Friday 8:30am-4:30pm, Saturday 8:00am-12:00pm

PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS:

  • Candidate must have the ability to use equipment and keep it neat and clean according to department requirements.

  • Candidate performs a variety of laundry functions pertaining to collection, distribution, putting away and organizing clothing in resident room drawers and closets.

  • Investigates claims of lost or misappropriated clothing. Maintains supply of clean mops and rags. Uses laundry equipment according to requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Candidates with experience in a hospital or nursing home preferred.

  • Knowledge of the dementia population and dealing with related behaviors.

  • Understands written and oral instruction.

  • Understands and absorbs new work methods.

  • Capable of wet dusting, mopping and polishing.

  • Capable of completing schedules effectively.

  • Capable of standing and walking for prolonged periods of time.

  • Cleans assigned area using established procedures and prescribed methods and cleaning products to provide and maintain as germ free/sterile an environment as possible to prevent the spread of disease.

  • Removes and disposes of trash. Picks up soiled bedspreads, Hoyer pads and mops and delivers clean items to the specified areas.

  • Cleans resident hampers, replaces cracked hampers and replaces lettering, as needed.

  • Replenishes supplies of detergents, gloves and any other disposable items.

  • Inspects and sends out laundry mesh bags for repair, when necessary.

  • Performs duties such as operating washing machines and dryers correctly. Cleans lint traps often.

  • Reports all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment, leaks, slow drains, burned out lights (including Exit lights) etc. to Housekeeping Assistant Director.

  • Advises Housekeeping Assistant Director when supplies are low.

  • Appropriately interacts with residents, staff and family members.
