What is a part time Google Cloud Architect?

Part time Google Cloud Architects are professionals who design, implement, and manage cloud solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) while working less than a standard full-time schedule. They help organizations migrate to or optimize their usage of cloud services, ensuring security, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. Working part time, they may handle specific projects, provide consulting, or support existing cloud infrastructure depending on business needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time Google Cloud Architect?

To thrive as a Part Time Google Cloud Architect, you need deep expertise in cloud computing, solution architecture, and strong knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, typically supported by a relevant degree and certifications like Google Professional Cloud Architect. Familiarity with tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes, and GCP management consoles is essential for designing and managing cloud infrastructure. Strong problem-solving, communication, and time management skills help you effectively balance multiple projects and collaborate with stakeholders in a flexible work schedule. These competencies ensure secure, scalable, and efficient cloud solutions that meet business needs, even in a part-time capacity.

How does working part-time as a Google Cloud Architect affect project involvement and collaboration with full-time team members?

As a part-time Google Cloud Architect, you will typically focus on specific projects or components rather than end-to-end architectural oversight. This often means collaborating closely with full-time architects, engineers, and project managers to ensure your contributions align with overall system design and timelines. Effective communication and time management are crucial, as your limited hours require clear prioritization of tasks and proactive updates to the team. Many organizations use agile methodologies and collaboration tools to help integrate part-time architects seamlessly into cross-functional teams.

Job description

Description:

The Microsoft Cloud Solution Architect / Technical Lead will serve as the overall technical authority for a Federal information technology modernization project involving document processing, structured data extraction, workflow automation, artificial intelligence, and enterprise search. The individual will own the end-to-end solution architecture and provide technical direction across the Microsoft cloud platform, application components, data services, security controls, integrations, and deployment activities.

The Solution Architect will design and oversee the integration of SharePoint, Microsoft 365 Government services, Azure Government, Azure AI services, Azure AI Search, Power Platform, identity, workflow, data storage, monitoring, and user-interface components. The individual will ensure that the project’s specialized AI, document-processing, search, data, and security capabilities operate as a cohesive and supportable solution.

The Solution Architect will also ensure that the Government’s designated content repository remains the authoritative system of record. The individual will preserve applicable permissions, records controls, and data protections while ensuring that the solution operates within approved Government cloud environments. When preferred services or features are unavailable, restricted, or not authorized, the Solution Architect will recommend practical alternatives that preserve the required functionality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead development of the overall solution architecture across Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Azure Government, data, security, workflow, AI, search, and application components.
  • Serve as the project’s primary technical authority and provide direction to platform, development, AI, data, security, and testing personnel.
  • Assess the existing Microsoft environment, including SharePoint sites, document libraries, metadata, content types, permissions, records controls, and integration constraints.
  • Design secure integration among SharePoint, Microsoft 365 services, Azure services, data repositories, workflows, search capabilities, AI services, and user interfaces.
  • Define system boundaries, interfaces, configuration standards, deployment patterns, identity models, and cross-platform technical decisions.
  • Ensure SharePoint remains the authoritative repository while preserving applicable permissions, records controls, metadata, and source-document traceability.
  • Validate the availability, authorization, and technical limitations of proposed Microsoft and Azure services within Government cloud environments.
  • Establish or oversee identity, role-based access, least-privilege permissions, secrets management, encryption, logging, monitoring, and audit capabilities.
  • Provide architectural oversight for ingestion, workflow, search, AI, and application integration without assuming responsibility for all hands-on component development.
  • Develop and maintain architecture diagrams, interface specifications, technical decisions, deployment guidance, and operational documentation.
  • Support integration testing, troubleshooting, production deployment, administrator transition, and knowledge transfer.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least six years of experience designing, implementing, or integrating Microsoft enterprise and cloud solutions.
  • Strong experience architecting solutions using Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Azure, or closely related Microsoft technologies.
  • Experience designing integrations among document repositories, cloud services, databases, applications, identity services, workflows, or enterprise platforms.
  • Experience with Microsoft identity, access control, security, logging, monitoring, secrets management, and secure service integration.
  • Experience leading technical architecture or coordinating work across multiple engineering, development, data, security, or platform disciplines.
  • Ability to develop and communicate technical architecture, integration designs, configuration standards, deployment guidance, and operational documentation.
  • Must be a US Citizen and ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust

Preferred

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 GCC, GCC High, Azure Government, FedRAMP-authorized services, or comparable regulated Government cloud environments.
  • Microsoft certification in Azure architecture, Azure administration, Azure security, Power Platform, SharePoint, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with Azure AI Search, Azure AI Document Intelligence, Azure OpenAI, or other Microsoft AI services.
  • Experience with Microsoft Graph, Entra ID, Purview, Power Platform, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Azure SQL, or comparable Microsoft integration technologies.
  • Experience supporting Federal Government modernization or cloud-integration projects.
