Job Title: Golf Shop AssistantDepartment: Overlook Golf CourseReports To: Head Golf ProfessionalSupervisory Responsibilities: NoSafety Sensitive: NoClassification: Full-Time; Non-ExemptDriving Status: NoWork Environment: Work demands fluctuate according to the season, location, and scheduled events. Work involves evenings, weekends, and holiday hours. Work occasionally involves responding to challenging individuals. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all climates and conditions. Summary: This position will manage daily golf operations including the Golf Shop, volunteers, enforcing policies and procedures of the township and golf course, tracking play, daily financial responsibilities, working with staff, and providing other professional services to ensure a high-quality golf experience.  Essential FunctionsManage golf operations in a professional and efficient manner. Provide customer service, professional advice, and assistance; remain informed and promote all golf course activities and services. Manage play, player check-in, and fee collection in coordination with staff members and volunteers. Manage the operation of the practice facility. Report accurate financial documentation. Schedule and train part-time Golf Shop staff, starters, rangers, range attendants, cart crew members, and new hires. Maintain a professional image and conduct oneself in a professional manner. Assist in planning, budgeting, monitoring, and corrective management for the golf operation. Implement policies and procedures; enforce rules and regulations governing the golf course. Assist in developing and managing in-house tournament programs that serve all customer segments. Other FunctionsAssist in developing and enforcing tournament regulations for all events. Assist in developing tournament schedules, including all types and dates. Develop and train a volunteer team for outings/events.Manage starting and scoring administration for events. Maintain familiarity with computer technology (computer, iPad, social media platforms). Physical RequirementsAbility to perform occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds). Ability to stand and walk frequently (up to 50% of the time). Ability to bend, push, and pull occasionally (less than 50% of the time). Ability to use hands and fingers with dexterity, as this job requires frequent fine motor use. Ability to verbally communicate professionally and effectively with stakeholders. Ability to read, understand, and respond to communications via email, in person, and through various department-level forms. KnowledgeKnowledge of the game of golf and golf operations. Knowledge of management practices, including supervision of part-time and volunteer staff, personnel development and training, and administration of quality programs. Knowledge of computer applications relates to golf operations. Knowledge of safety practices and procedures for golf department operations. Knowledge of Township and department policies, procedures, and work rules. AbilitiesManage multiple projects, including staff scheduling, sales, inventory, course play, and other golf operations. Demonstrate tact and patience when dealing with customers. Solve problems independently and take initiative with minimal supervision.Enforce department rules and regulations. Establish effective relationships with employees, management, customers, and vendors. Demonstrate flexibility to meet changing schedule requirements. Prepare written and/or electronic material in a clear and organized fashion. Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent required; formal education in related industry management, or related coursework preferred but not required. Prior experience working in golf courses or golf shop operations preferred but not required; however, candidates must demonstrate knowledge of golf etiquette, rules of play, and course management practices. Demonstrated knowledge of golf operations administration, including tournament and league coordination, player services, and tracking and categorizing financial components related to outings, leagues, and events.
