Job Title IT Lab Technician, Part-Time (Pooled) Job Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF FUNCTION: The IT Lab Technician oversees computer laboratories across multiple campuses, ensuring a functional and supportive environment for students completing IT-related lab work. This part-time, grant-funded position supports student success in the School of Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, and IT by providing technical assistance and maintaining lab operations. The role involves working up to 19 hours per week during the fall (August-December) and spring (January-May) semesters and reports to the Chair of the School of Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, and IT at the Harrison County Campus.
Job Duties
1. Monitor and maintain computer lab equipment, ensuring hardware and software functionality.
2. Support students in information system technology labs at assigned campuses.
2. Assist students with troubleshooting issues with programming, software, or networking tasks.
3. Ensure a safe, organized, and accessible lab environment.
4. Perform basic technical support, such as resolving software errors or network connectivity issues.
5. Document lab usage and report issues to the Chair.
6. Build data files and run computer programs as directed by the Chair.
7. Maintain a learning-focused environment in the labs.
8. Report equipment malfunctions to the supervisor in a timely manner.
9. Evaluate physical and virtual spaces to ensure ADA compliance.
10. Secure computers and lab equipment prior to the end of each work shift.
11. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with college personnel, students, and the community.
12. Set up and maintain networking rack systems.
13.Upgrade skill level and performance through staff development.
14. Demonstrate exceptional adherence to work schedules and policies.
15. Attend recruitment events to represent IT programs at MGCCC.
16. Perform other duties as assigned by appropriate leadership personnel.
Mandatory Qualifications
(M1) Associate's degree in an information technology-related field, or equivalent experience with at least 30 semester hours of college credit in IT-related courses.
(M2) Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
(M3) Demonstrated knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C++, C#, or Java).
(M4) Understanding of networking fundamentals.
(M5) Familiarity with cloud computing concepts.
(M6) Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications
(D1) Bachelor's degree in an information technology-related field.
(D2) Cisco, CompTIA, or cloud-related certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals).
(D3) Proficiency in SQL, Python, C++, C#, or Java.
(D4) Experience with data tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Excel.
