Are you dependable, observant, and interested in helping maintain a safe and secure environment? As a General Helper in the Safety Division, you'll help protect County-owned buildings by monitoring facilities, identifying potential safety or security concerns, and responding appropriately when issues arise.
What You'll Do
• Monitor County-owned buildings and surrounding areas for safety and security concerns.
• Conduct routine patrols of assigned buildings and designated areas.
• Watch for signs of unauthorized entry, suspicious activity, or security concerns.
• Identify immediate hazards such as fires, unsafe conditions, or other potential dangers.
• Promptly report incidents, hazards, or unusual activity to the appropriate personnel or authorities.
• Assist with radio communications and relay important information when assigned.
• Follow established safety, security, and emergency procedures while maintaining awareness of building activity.

Minimum Qualifications
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Have passed their 18th birthday; OR be at least 16 years old and a high school graduate; OR have completed the state requirements for the General Educational Development Test (GED); OR be an emancipated minor.
  • Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical established for this classification.

NOTE: A valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license will be required for
certain positions. Out of Country driver's license holders will be required to obtain the
appropriate valid State of Michigan driver's license before the hire date.
  • Successfully complete the six month probationary period.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license (for positions which require driving).

ESSENTIAL MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to communicate to accurately convey information.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle and/or be a passenger may be required for certain positions.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Regularly work in an outdoor environment with exposure to heat, cold, and other weather elements.
Certain positions may participate in activities that require driving or being a passenger in an automobile or bus.
