Job description

Job Summary
The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) - Georgia School for the Deaf is recruiting for two experienced part time hourly bus driver. Under general supervision, the job responsibilities include but not limited to:
Description of Duties
  • Maintain a safe environment within the bus by enforcing rules of conduct and responding to emergencies
  • Enforce normal school system and/or state regulations while transporting groups
  • Responsible for meeting state driver licensure requirements and obeys all laws for operation of a school bus
  • Provide a means of transportation for students/staff of the Georgia School for the Deaf
  • Completes all start up and shut down procedures including set up and break down of stairs/railings/leveling, charging, checking gas, oil, water and fluids levels
  • Responsible for reporting mechanical defects upon detection to supervisor
  • Demonstrate courteous and respectful behavior with students, staff and the general public
  • Clean the bus at the end of each trip, stay with groups on all trips
  • Perform pre and post trip safety and maintenance checks
  • Advise supervisor of any maintenance or repair needs
  • Complete records of all trips and submit them weekly
  • Prohibit food and smoking or unsafe conduct on bus
  • Stay with groups on all trips

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
  • At least 3 years of school bus driving experience
  • Knowledge of basic motor vehicle and school bus operation
  • Knowledge of school bus safety policies and procedures
  • Possess ASL sign language skills

**Part-time hourly position with no benefits.
