Building a reliable workflow and setting clear boundaries with clients can help mitigate stress and maintain high-quality deliverables.

Job description

Overview

Have you ever wondered why higher education feels stuck? Or imagined rebuilding it from the ground up? Imagine a university where advanced technology enhances every student's learning experience through personalized, adaptive, and real-world education.

San Francisco Bay University (SFBU), an innovative, nonprofit, WASC-accredited university located in the heart of Silicon Valley, seeks a forward-thinking and experienced Online Adjunct Professor of Accounting to teach ACC 501 Managerial Accounting within our MBA Pro+ program. Working alongside innovative instructional technologies, including artificial intelligence-enhanced learning tools, the faculty member will guide graduate students through engaging asynchronous learning experiences while providing the mentorship, coaching, and academic oversight that only expert faculty can deliver.

The MBA Pro+ program prepares current and aspiring business leaders with the financial and managerial knowledge needed to succeed in today's technology-driven global economy. Accounting serves as the foundation for sound business decision-making, while emerging technologies and artificial intelligence continue to transform financial reporting, auditing, compliance, and business analytics. Students learn to interpret financial statements, apply accounting principles, evaluate financial performance, analyze managerial accounting information, understand auditing and regulatory requirements, and leverage modern accounting technologies to solve complex business challenges. Through executive case studies, simulations, and applied consulting projects, graduates develop the analytical, ethical, and strategic skills necessary to support organizational accountability and long-term success.

What You Bring

We are looking for educators who are passionate about graduate business education and committed to preparing the next generation of accounting professionals. Ideal candidates have experience designing engaging, student-centered learning experiences that foster analytical thinking, ethical decision-making, and practical application of accounting principles. Candidates should be interested in exploring how artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are reshaping accounting practice and business education and be excited to contribute to a culture of continuous innovation within the MBA Pro+ program.

Responsibilities
  • Provide an engaging, supportive, and student-centered online learning experience.

  • Facilitate graduate-level accounting courses within the MBA Pro+ program using executive case studies, financial modeling exercises, simulations, and applied consulting projects.

  • Build meaningful relationships with students through mentoring, academic advising, and professional coaching.

  • Conduct 60-minute virtual student networking meetups (optional for students) twice weekly.

  • Review AI-supported formative assessment insights, exercise faculty judgment in validating student mastery, and intervene when students need additional guidance or support.

  • Integrate AI-enhanced learning tools and emerging financial technologies where appropriate to enrich the student learning experience.

  • Continuously improve course materials and AI-enhanced learning experiences to reflect current trends and best practices in Accountancy.

  • Evaluate summative assessments and submit final grades in a timely manner.

  • Collaborate with faculty and academic leadership to strengthen and advance SFBU's MBA Pro+ curriculum.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or D.B.A. in Accounting, Business Administration (Accounting), Accounting Information Systems, Economics, or a closely related discipline.

  • CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certification is preferred.

  • Experience teaching graduate-level online accounting courses using a Learning Management System (LMS).

  • Expertise in one or more areas of accounting, including financial accounting, managerial accounting, cost accounting, auditing, taxation, accounting information systems, forensic accounting, or corporate governance.

  • Familiarity with emerging accounting technologies and an interest in incorporating generative AI and other digital tools into teaching and learning.

  • Demonstrated commitment to student success and excellence in graduate business education.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Must reside in California.

Compensation: $7,300.80 for each 8-week course (hourly rate is $152.10)

Application Materials:

  • Interested candidates must submit the following application materials:

  • A cover letter detailing your qualifications, teaching philosophy, and alignment with our mission and core values (https://www.sfbu.edu/strategic-plan).

  • Curriculum vitae.

  • Contact information for three professional references.

  • Applications will be reviewed immediately and continue until the position is filled.
