This role is well-suited for a licensed Professional Engineer with forensic consulting experience who is comfortable working independently and may be called upon to provide litigation support, depositions, and expert testimony.
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct forensic investigations involving structural failures, collapses, construction defects, and property damage claims.
  • Perform site inspections and gather relevant field data, measurements, photographs, and documentation.
  • Analyze structural systems and determine the cause, origin, and extent of reported damages or failures.
  • Apply engineering principles, applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices to develop conclusions.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and technically sound forensic engineering reports.
  • Participate in depositions, mediation, arbitration, and trial proceedings as an expert witness when required.
  • Communicate findings effectively with clients, attorneys, insurance professionals, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable building codes, engineering standards, and forensic investigation methodologies.
  • Perform other project-related consulting services as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing; multiple state licensure preferred.
  • Prior forensic engineering experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience investigating structural failures, construction defects, and damage causation matters.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50%, including short-notice travel in response to catastrophic events, natural disasters, and large-scale property loss investigations.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel independently to inspection sites throughout the assigned region.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience providing litigation support, depositions, or expert testimony preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments independently and meet project deadlines.

Engagement Structure:
  • Independent Contractor (1099) relationship.
  • Project-based assignments as opportunities arise.
  • Flexible workload and scheduling.
  • Competitive compensation based on assignment scope and complexity.
  • Opportunity to support investigations across residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
  • Travel requirements vary based on project demand and geographic coverage.
  • Contractor is responsible for all applicable taxes, licensing requirements, insurance, and business expenses associated with the engagement.
