Job description

FEDERAL WORK STUDY - STUDENT AMBASSADOR
HAROLD WASHINGTON CAMPUS - ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT

City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 70,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education.


The Federal Work Study Program (FWS) is a federally-funded financial aid program that provides subsidized part-time employment for eligible students in order to assist them with postsecondary financial needs. City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) complies with the Department of Education's regulations regarding the FWS program and allows students to benefit from this opportunity.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

The FWS program encourages students to gain experience in their prospective fields by placing them in areas and departments aligned with their area of study whenever possible. Students are able to use their wages towards educational and living expenses.
FWS jobs are available in areas such as academic departments, laboratories, libraries, administrative offices, student centers and several off-campus locations.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


The Student Ambassador serves as a representative and role model for the college. Ambassadors support campus outreach and recruitment efforts, assist with the new student onboarding, lead campus tours, and help build a welcoming and inclusive environment. This position provides valuable leadership experience and the opportunity to positively impact prospective and current students.

        Represent the college positively at on campus and off campus events ( Open Houses, Parades, Orientation Sessions.)

        Lead campus tours for prospective students, families, and special guests.

        Share personal student experiences and college knowledge to help others navigate the college journey.

        Assist with admissions, recruitment, and outreach initiatives, and phone call campaigns.

        Provide peer support and answer general question related to college services, programs, and student life.

        Help plan and support engagement activities, including Enrollment Days, New Student Orientations, and Academic Program student panels.

        Maintain regular communication with the Direct Supervisor and attend regular trainings and meetings.

        Availability: Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm. Hours of operation vary during peak times of the year and may have the option to work some weekend events.


 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Eligibility Requirements:

- Applicants must be 16years or older, have work permit consent, and eligible to work in the United States
- Applicants must be actively attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago
- Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hours pre-credit or credit classes
- Applicants must be pursuing an approved educational credential, degree, or certificate
- Applicants must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA (waived for first semester new students)
- Applicants must be in "good standing" - no City Colleges of Chicago academic restrictions
- Applicants must not be current Full or Part-time employees of the City Colleges of Chicago
- All positions are "employment at-will"


Minimum Qualifications

        Must be a currently enrolled student and have Harold Washington College as their home campus, and in good academic/ disciplinary standing.

        Must be able to work flexible hours as needed

        Must demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and strong customer service skills in all interactions

        Good verbal and written communication skills.

        Ability to work effectively and respectfully in a culturally diverse environment, fostering inclusivity and collaboration.

        Ability to work independently and in team setting.

        Appropriate office dress code.

        Passion for helping others and promoting student success.

Salary Range: $17.05 per hour
Offered rate will be determined based on whether assigned location is on campus or off campus.
