Position Description

(Campus Support - Level II position)

NOTE: Students may apply for one or both positions(International Orientation Team Leader and/or WoW Team Leader).Please explain in your cover letter which position(s) you would like to be considered for. We will work with students who would like to do both to ensure no scheduling conflicts arisebetween the programs.International Orientation is seeking about 8 leaders, and WoW is looking for about 15-18 leaders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher will be considered an asset

• Previous experience as a peer mentor or similar positions, considered an asset

Conditions of employment

• Must be available for training and events prior to the start of school including International Orientation and WoW

Qualifications

• All Team Leaders must have completed a minimum of one year (2 semesters) as a student at UW-Superior by Spring 2026

• Must be enrolled as an on-campus (not Distance Learning) student at least part time for the Fall 2026 semester(must be enrolled for semester no later than May 15th , 2026)

• Must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA to apply

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Demonstrates a positive attitude and a strong work ethic

• Highly responsible, motivated and has a strong desire to assist students with their personal and academic adjustment to UW-Superior including (but not limited to)

• Helping first year students improve study skills and time management, explore the importance of campus and community involvement, making healthy choices, personal decision making, conflict resolution skills, and identity exploration

• Possesses a commitment to diversity equity and inclusion, as demonstrated by:

• Actively promoting diversity, equity and inclusion within their role

• Contributing to the team by working effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds

Responsibilities

Orientation:

• Assist new students and serve as a resource during International Orientation and/or WoW (Weekend of Welcome)

• Participate fully in activities including leading small groups and discussions designed to address students' questions and concerns

• Assist new students with checking in and moving into the residence halls

• Assist with the facilitation of activities
  

• Maintain strict confidentiality with students' personal information

• Helping students engage in healthy and responsible decision making

Resource:

Team Leaders serve as a resource to new students by:

• Connecting students to resources on campus

• Providing the peer perspective on what it means to be a UW-Superior Yellowjacket

• Supporting other Team Leaders through their experience (idea sharing, collaborative problem solving, etc.)

Required Training & Events

NOTE: (applies to both positions)
Contracts (International Orientation and/or WoW Team Leader) must be signed prior to Mayr 8th, 2026.
In person attendance at all training sessions (unless otherwise noted) and all orientation activities are a requirement for these positions.No exceptions will be made.

Compensation (both positions):

• Estimate $11- $12/hour

International Orientation Specific

• Position requirements may include late nights and early mornings

• Training dates:

• Tentatively August 20th (International Team Leaders only)

• International Orientation Activities (including international pick-up/move-in): Tentatively August 26th - 28th, 2026.

• Secondary: Assistant Dean of Students

EVALUATION AND FUTURE EMPLOYMENT(applies to WoW staff only)

• Team Leaders are required to complete an evaluation with the Orientation Student Manager and/or Assistant Dean of Students after WoW is complete.

• The evaluation of performance as a Team Leader will be taken into consideration if staff applies for future employment with Orientation/Dean of Students Office

NOTICE OF DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

The Dean of Students Office Orientation program will not dismiss a Team Leader without proper notification. Team Leaders will have verbal and written warnings if their job performance does not meet expectations. Probationary periods will occur if necessary.

A Team Leader may be terminated if a Team Leader performs an infraction of highest severity (including but not limited to: illegal activity, University policy violation, etc.) or the Team Leader has failed to improve after notification of unsatisfactory job performance. The Assistant Dean of Students will review work history and a record of discipline in a final meeting with the Team Leader. During this meeting, a letter of termination will be provided along with copies of previous disciplinary measures.

Grounds for termination may include, but are not limited to:

• Unfavorable background check

• Insubordination

• Policy or law violations and/or other instances that affect the Team Leader's ability to be an effective role model.

• Violation of confidentiality

• Work not meeting quality standards

• Not performing responsibilities and expectations defined in contract.

• Lack of professional conduct

• Absence during meetings/trainings/events

• Other instances as deemed necessary by the Assistant Dean of Students
