Newport Academy is a gender-specific, comprehensive treatment program for adolescents suffering from mental health, behavioral health and substance abuse issues. The program combines the key elements essential in effectively treating adolescent girls and boys with substance abuse and other mental health disorders. As compared with adults, adolescents have higher rates of dual diagnosis and developmental differences. Adolescent treatment needs can be challenging and often involves more comprehensive and multi-disciplinary approaches. At Newport Academy, we deliver a highly individualized, holistic approach to treatment where psychological, biological, spiritual, social and educational needs are continually assessed and revised throughout the treatment process.
Job Description
Position Summary:
The RN provides on-site nursing and attendant care to adolescents residing in Newport Academy facilities located in Orange County, CA. The RN is expected to perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the mission and core values of Newport Academy and comply with all policies and procedures, OSHA, HIPPA, local, state, and federal, regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
  • Provide direct care, nursing services and medication administration to residents as prescribed by program regulations, and/or individual treatment plan, including collecting medical specimens.
  • Maintains records, including but not limited to medication administration, medical records, medical charts, etc.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary treatment team meetings as needed.
  • Training of Care Coordinators in medication protocols.
  • Documentation in EHR.
  • Performs patient assessments for new admissions
  • Perform weekly assessments on residents and coordinate care with outside medical providers; evaluates data and intervenes as allowed by the state of CA.
  • Communicate with medical providers, operations team and preferred pharmacies.
  • Responsible for preventing client abuse by adhering to all policies and procedures, attending periodic training, reporting suspicious and inappropriate behavior, and following mandatory abuse reporting requirements.
  • Monitor chronic health conditions, respiratory distress and seizures.
  • Obtains patient data and vital signs and reports findings to the Medical Director.
  • Screen residents for medical/dental exams and schedule appropriate medical appointments including dental, vision, & clinical, providing medical information on a need to know basis.
  • Comply with all reporting requirements, biohazard program requirements, medical protocols, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Full-time and part-time positions are available for day and evening shifts.
Qualifications
  • Current RN license in California and 2 years prior nursing experience
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and decision making skills required.
  • Must present a professional and compassionate demeanor in all interactions.
  • Experience in residential nursing preferred.
  • Experience in adolescent residential nursing a definite plus.
