About Us:The City of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department is split into two distinct areas:
  • The Parks Division manages and maintains all public parks, open spaces, trails, storm water retention basins, landscaping at municipal facilities and Thunderbird Conservation Park. The Division is also responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety and security of park and facility use.
  • The Recreation Division offers opportunities to enhance the social, physical, mental and economic health of our community through a variety of diverse recreation programs and facilities. Recreation programs and events are held at the Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center, the Glendale Adult Center, Historic Sahuaro Ranch, the five community centers and at basketball, tennis, skate courts and other recreation facilities throughout the city.

The City of Glendale Recreation division is currently looking for fun, friendly individuals who enjoy providing excellent customer service while working in a recreation center environment.
The purpose of this position is to prepare and maintain the building for daily operations while enforcing safety and City policies and procedures and providing guidance to program participants. Preparing recreation facilities by setting up meeting rooms, audio visual equipment, tables, chairs and/or recreational equipment needed for scheduled activities. Providing guidance to participants regarding equipment use and safety, checking equipment for needed repairs and returning equipment to storage upon program completion.

Position Overview:
This is a part-time position for up to 19 hours per week. Greatest need is for Monday - Thursday 7:00 am - 11:00 am and Friday 7:00 am - 10:00 am.
  • Hourly rate: $16.50
  • FLSA status: Non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay for hours worked over 40 per week)
  • Work locations: Glendale Adult Center, 5970 W Brown St, Glendale, AZ 85302.
  • Sick Time: Accrues at .034 hours per-hour-paid

Essential Functions
1. Maintains and sets up facilities for daily operation and special events.
2. Inventories facility supplies regularly and provides information about any items that might be needed.
3. Assures facilities and equipment are in good working order and arranged to meet safety standards and the requirements of users.
4. Performs basic maintenance and repair work as needed.
5. Interacts with the public in responding to questions and assisting in preparation for programs and events.
6. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements/Success Factors
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSKnowledge of:
  • Parks and Recreation department policies and regulations
  • Basic maintenance skills
  • Various types of recreation programs (i.e. computers, crafts, bingo, special events)
  • Computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, registration software
Ability to:
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Understand and follow safe working practices
  • Perform general maintenance and service requirements of equipment in area of responsibility
  • Maintain the appropriate state of Arizona driver license with relevant endorsements
  • Interact effectively and courteously with the public and other employees
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
Special Requirements
  • Work involves heavy lifting of 50 pounds, moving and stacking tables and chairs multiple times throughout the day, pushing/pulling trash containers and other objects, extensive walking, bending, standing, lifting, and standing on ladders
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must have/obtain First Aid/CPR Certification within 30 days of Hire
  • This position is classified as safety-sensitive which requires candidates to successfully undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment. They will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy. A post-offer physical assessment is required. The City of Glendale will incur the cost of all required testing.
