Overview

A Y Fitness Group Exercise Instructor conducts group exercise classes in the areas of cardiovascular wellness, flexibility, and muscular endurance incorporating warm ups and cools downs for each class.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the overall YMCA mission of healthy living, youth development and social responsibility. 

  • Plan and lead exercise classes.

  • Set up equipment and store securely after class.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the wellness area.
  • Keep track of participants and note when there is a new participant in class or when a regular participant has dropped out.
  • Check instructor book or board weekly to keep current with announcements and information from the director.
  • Be a team player with all other associates.
  • Maintain safety in all classes by following YMCA and national certification guidelines.
  • Keep knowledgeable in the areas of fitness, exercise science, nutrition, CPR, First Aid, choreography, etc. through required YMCA and national CEUS.
  • Notify appropriate associate of any unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accident, or injuries immediately.
  • Use microphone in class, if available.
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid.
  • Complete and pass audition with director.
  • Able to relate to people on all levels in a friendly and consistent manner.
  • Able to reflect a positive attitude.
  • Accepted National Group Exercise Certification (i.e. AFAA, ACE, NCSM), specialized training in a nationally recognized format (i.e. Zumba, YogaFit, RYT 200 or 500, Piloxing, Pilates, Powder Blue formats, LesMills etc) and/or Foundations of YMCA Group Exercise.
