Position Summary: The Surgery Scheduler, is responsible for coordinating and scheduling procedures. This role ensures efficient scheduling of surgeries, maintains accurate records, and serves as a liaison between physicians, hospital staff, and other multidisciplinary healthcare team members. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and possesses excellent communication skills to provide exceptional service to both patients and medical professionals.

Position Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required. Associate's degree preferred.

Licensure: N/A

Certification: N/A

Experience: 1+ years of experience in a healthcare environment required.


Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of medical terminology with working knowledge of computerized scheduling system.
  • Clinical background in surgery preferred.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet required
  • General knowledge of multi-phone lines, fax machine, copiers, printers and other general office equipment required
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a multidisciplinary team
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in scheduling and documentation
  • Problem solving skills to handle scheduling conflicts and assist in offering solutions
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality practices

Essential Job Functions

  • Accurately and efficiently schedules patients ensuring appropriate timing and resource availability while following established protocols
  • Communicates scheduling details to patients, physicians, and surgical teams as needed
  • Maintains a high level of customer service. Utilizes positive interpersonal skills with both internal and external customers in the daily performance of duties.
  • Adheres to HIPPA regulations and maintains confidentiality and respect for patient rights.
  • Assists with rescheduling or cancellations as needed
  • Employee is responsible for all other duties as assigned for which competency has been demonstrated.

Physical requirements: This position is classified as Sedentary Work in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally) up to (33% of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (33%-66% of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
