What does a part time event planner do?

A part time event planner coordinates and organizes events such as parties, meetings, weddings, or corporate gatherings, but works fewer hours than a full-time planner. Their responsibilities include managing budgets, securing venues, coordinating vendors, and ensuring that all event details run smoothly. Part time event planners may work independently or as part of a team, and their schedules are often flexible to accommodate event timelines. This role requires strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time event planner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Event Planner, you need strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and relevant experience or coursework in event management. Familiarity with event management software, budgeting tools, and vendor coordination systems is typically required. Exceptional communication, creativity, and problem-solving skills help you stand out in this client-facing, fast-paced role. These skills ensure smooth event execution, client satisfaction, and the ability to handle unexpected challenges effectively.

How does a part time event planner typically balance multiple events and clients, and what tools or strategies are commonly used to stay organized?

Part-time event planners often juggle several events and clients simultaneously, which requires excellent time management and organizational skills. Many rely on digital tools like project management software (e.g., Trello or Asana), shared calendars, and checklists to keep track of tasks, deadlines, and vendor communications. Clear communication with clients and vendors is key, and regular progress updates help ensure that events stay on schedule. Flexibility and adaptability are important, as priorities can shift quickly in the events industry.

Job description

Mataga GMC Cadillac | Stockton, California

Mataga GMC Cadillac is hiring a creative, driven, and highly organized Part-Time Marketing & Advertising Specialist to strengthen our dealership’s presence across digital channels and throughout the Stockton-area community.

This is an on-site position for a hands-on marketing professional who can create high-quality photo and video content, manage social media, improve online visibility through SEO and GEO, support direct-to-customer campaigns, and represent Mataga GMC Cadillac at community events. The right candidate will help promote our new GMC and Cadillac vehicles, pre-owned inventory, service and parts departments, special offers, customer stories, and dealership culture.

This is not a remote role. The selected candidate will work at the dealership and periodically attend off-site events such as fairs, festivals, car shows, community gatherings, sponsorships, and promotional activations.

What You’ll DoContent Creation and Brand Storytelling
  • Capture and edit professional dealership photography and video content featuring new GMC and Cadillac vehicles, pre-owned inventory, service operations, parts and accessories, employee spotlights, customer deliveries, and community involvement.
  • Create short-form video content for platforms such as Instagram Reels, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and other relevant channels.
  • Develop engaging written content, including social-media captions, vehicle highlights, promotional messaging, service offers, email campaigns, website content, event materials, and customer-facing communications.
  • Maintain a consistent, polished, and professional visual identity that reflects the GMC and Cadillac brands as well as Mataga GMC Cadillac’s local reputation.
  • Build content calendars that support monthly promotions, manufacturer incentives, seasonal service needs, holiday campaigns, vehicle launches, and dealership events.
Social Media and Digital Advertising
  • Manage and grow Mataga GMC Cadillac’s social-media presence across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Google Business Profile.
  • Plan, schedule, publish, and monitor organic social-media content and community engagement.
  • Assist with or manage targeted paid advertising campaigns through Meta platforms, Google Ads, display advertising, video advertising, and retargeting tools.
  • Respond professionally to appropriate customer comments, messages, and online engagement in coordination with dealership leadership and established communication guidelines.
  • Track campaign performance, audience engagement, website traffic, lead volume, and other key performance indicators; share clear recommendations to improve results.
  • Monitor dealership, automotive-market, competitor, and social-media trends to identify content and advertising opportunities.
SEO, GEO, AI, and Website Visibility
  • Support traditional search engine optimization (SEO) efforts by researching relevant keywords and improving dealership website pages, vehicle content, service pages, local landing pages, and Google Business Profile activity.
  • Help improve local-search visibility for Mataga GMC Cadillac through accurate online listings, updated location information, photos, posts, reviews support, and customer-focused website content.
  • Apply generative engine optimization (GEO) practices by creating accurate, helpful, well-structured content that can be surfaced by AI-powered search experiences and answer engines. GEO focuses on improving the likelihood that useful brand information appears in AI-generated search responses, rather than relying only on conventional keyword rankings.[semrush][manhattanstrategies]
  • Use AI tools responsibly to improve content planning, research, drafting, campaign ideation, reporting, and workflow efficiency while maintaining brand voice, accuracy, privacy, and human review.
  • Keep current on changes in social platforms, SEO, AI-powered search, digital advertising, and automotive marketing best practices.
Direct-to-Customer Marketing
  • Create and support direct-to-customer marketing campaigns through email, text messaging, direct mail, social media, website offers, and other approved dealership channels.
  • Promote current vehicle incentives, lease and finance offers, trade-in opportunities, service specials, maintenance reminders, parts and accessory offers, and customer-retention initiatives.
  • Work with sales, service, parts, BDC, and management teams to develop timely, accurate, customer-friendly messaging.
  • Help strengthen customer loyalty by highlighting customer experiences, dealership events, service value, and community involvement.
Community Events and Field Marketing
  • Represent Mataga GMC Cadillac at off-site community events, including fairs, festivals, car shows, local business events, sponsorship activations, and other promotional opportunities.
  • Assist with planning, setup, teardown, staffing, and promotion for dealership and community events.
  • Coordinate event marketing materials, displays, signage, promotional items, vehicle presentations, photo/video coverage, and lead-capture activities.
  • Engage prospective customers, answer basic dealership and vehicle-related questions, and direct qualified leads to the appropriate sales or service team member.
  • Capture event content for use on social media, website pages, email campaigns, and future promotions.
  • Help evaluate event performance, lead quality, attendance, engagement, and opportunities to improve future outreach.
QualificationsRequired Experience and Skills

  • Working knowledge of social-media advertising, paid digital campaigns, content calendars, audience engagement, and marketing analytics.
  • Understanding of SEO fundamentals, keyword research, local SEO, and website-content optimization.
  • Familiarity with GEO, AI-powered search, AI-assisted content workflows, or a willingness to learn and apply these evolving practices.
  • Experience with creative and marketing tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, CapCut, Meta Business Suite, Google Ads, Google Analytics, Google Business Profile, email marketing platforms, CRM systems, or similar tools.
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and coordinate effectively with sales, service, parts, BDC, and management teams.
  • Professional appearance, positive attitude, strong attention to detail, and customer-first mindset.
  • Ability to work on-site at Mataga GMC Cadillac and attend occasional off-site events, which may include evening or weekend hours.

  • Familiarity with GMC, Cadillac, vehicle inventory marketing, manufacturer incentives, service promotions, or automotive customer lead generation.
  • Experience with dealership CRM, DMS, inventory-management, reputation-management, or automotive marketing systems.
  • Experience with graphic design, video editing, drone photography/videography where properly licensed and approved, or live-event content production.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
  • Valid California driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
Physical Requirements

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Work primarily takes place on-site in an office, showroom, service-drive, dealership lot, and community-event environment.
  • Regularly use a computer, smartphone, camera, video equipment, editing software, and other office or marketing tools.
  • Regularly sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, grasp, and use hands and fingers for computer, camera, and event-related work.
  • Occasionally lift, carry, set up, or move marketing materials, signs, displays, equipment, and promotional items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors during dealership and community events, sometimes in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel locally for approved events, photo/video opportunities, and dealership marketing activities.
