POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: ESH Technician

REPORTS TO: ESH Supervisor

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

PAY RANGE: $25.00-$35.00 per hour DOE

FT / PT STATUS: Full Time

LOCATION: Office, Shipyard(s) & Customer Facilities

SUMMARY

Promote and augment Environmental, Safety and Health to its highest level on a variety of jobsites, working independently and with others as a team, providing regular guidance and knowledge concerning Environmental, Health & Safety regulations and requirements to the Project Team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct daily inspections of facility, vessel, pier to ensure compliance and identify any unsafe conditions or environmental violations and submit reports as required.
  • Work with the on-site project management team to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and prevent incidents.
  • Represent the company when conducting and attending inspections, investigations and interacting with a variety of people.
  • Conduct safety meetings and training on a variety of ESH topics. Including respiratory fit testing, fall protection, etc.
  • Identify potential safety and environmental hazards and recommend corrections to minimize risks.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents that occur in the workplace.
  • Conduct industrial hygiene testing, including breathe air, air monitoring, sample captures, etc.
  • Review Job Hazard Analysis sheets
  • Ensure appropriate hazard controls ? Enforcing company standards and procedures.
  • Perform ESH administrative duties associated with job assignments.
  • Ensure safety equipment supply and availability
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • None

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & ATTRIBUTES

  • Knowledge of Federal, State and local regulations within the Maritime Industry.
  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures with regards to safety and environmental policies and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents relevant to customer, company or local, state and federal safey and environmental regulations such as Waste Sheets and Safety Data Sheets
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Highschool Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2+ Years experience in the Maritime Industry
  • OSHA 5410 Maritime Standards - preferred
  • HAZWOPER 24 or 40 hour - preferred
  • OSHA 521 Industrial Hygiene - preferred
  • OSHA 3115 Fall Protection - preferred
  • OSHA 3095 Low Voltage - preferred
  • Shipyard Competent Person (Gas Free) preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Regularly exposed to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, heights, confined spaces, precarious places, proximity to other employees.
  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections
  • Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 50+ pounds (50 lbs occasionally, 25 lbs frequently, 10 lbs constantly)
  • Lifting includes from floor to waist, waist to shoulder, waist to overhead
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders
  • May be required to wear a respirator
