Job Summary SUMMARY The Town of Ocean City's Planning and Community Development's Environmental Program Division hiring a part-time Environmental Inspector. The Environmental Inspector will assist with daily functions, but will primarily conduct research and work on a project proposed by the intern and approved by the Department Director and Environmental Engineer. This job is part-time for a total of 640 hours starting on July 13, 2026.

Job Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Assists with and participates in the implementation of local and State regulatory measures falling within the authority of the Division, including, but not limited to Atlantic Coastal Bays Critical Area, Stormwater Management, State tidal discharge permits, etc.

Assists with day-to-day Division operations, including, but not limited to, conducting inspections under the guidance of senior staff, file research and organization, GIS mapping Enforces regulatory measures including violations, fines, penalties, and appropriate follow up Provides general customer service and assistance to the public and department staff Completes assigned tasks accurately and by established deadlines Assists with mini grant projects, under the guidance of senior staff Participate on damage assessment team, on call response following storm events or accident Achieve and maintain certifications, continuing education and training to expand knowledge of code interpretation and enforcement May perform reviews of small project applications Prepare inspection reports, create record of all inspections, violations and citations, assist in project start up and close out process, file documentation of approvals, maintain a detailed record of inspection including both scheduled and unscheduled field visits with descriptions, participation in project close out to include printed/scanned/pdf record of project inspections in the permit processing database Inspect property construction for compliance with approved permit/plans and applicable Codes Investigate code violations, prepare and issue citations, testify before administrative and judicial bodies as required, maintain documentation of 'success rate' cases resolved by compliance vs. citation Meet with builders and property owners to interpret codes and regulations, participate in project meetings with applicant and building contractors Serve the residents of Ocean City as a dedicated and trusted public servant Perform other duties as assigned by the Environmental Planner Minimum Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or equivalent Completion of an undergraduate degree with a concentration in Environmental, Geography, Planning, or Natural Resources or related topic of study or at least 4 years of prior experience in the Environmental sector Computer literate (word processing, spreadsheets) A general knowledge of the State of Maryland Stormwater Management regulations Preferred Experience: GIS A general knowledge of the Critical Area Program CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION Valid driver's license Supplemental Information LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from citizens, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to business and property owners. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs and diagrams. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply common sense understanding and professional expertise to individual problems and solutions.
