JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences is seeking a Part-Time Research Associate. The successful candidate will:
  • The Research Associates will compile and translate air quality data for the study region from published sources into the formats required for incorporation into the overall analysis. Research associates will also assist the project team in compiling a record of pollutant emitting sources from the oil and gas industry as well as other major industrial activity and road traffic. Will assist in the development of research communication materials including plots, graphs, web pages, posters, papers, and other documents.
  • This project is focused on ascertaining the contributions of unconventional oil and gas development to local and regional air quality, associated population exposures across the multi-state Marcellus-Utica Shale region from 2004 to 2023, which groups of people have been most affected by these air quality changes, and how changes in industry practices and government policy have affected pollutant exposures in the region.
  • Must be currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, Meteorology, or Geosciences.
  • Familiarity with database applications is desired.
  • Experience with coding in R or Python or MATLAB is desired.
  • Some experience with statistics or data analytics is desired.
  • Must be detail-oriented. An interest in understanding air quality is desired.
